Principal's News

We acknowledge the Taungurung people, the traditional custodians of this land and we pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging.

Dear Parents,

Harmony Day

We will be celebrating Harmony Day this Friday.   On this day students are encouraged to wear unusual or funny socks with their school uniform. This will be a light hearted way to celebrate diversity, as it reflects the unique expressions of individuality and creativity found in different cultures in the world. There is no cost on this day.

Binney St gate

We are currently running a trial of opening the Binney St gate in before and after school until the end of Term 1. We strongly encourage parents and students to use this gate to avoid the upcoming construction in Anderson St and the congestion of busses, bikes and cars in Bury St (tennis courts). In the interests of student safety, please consider using this entrance. If we have strong support over this term, we will continue opening the gate beyond Term 1.

School Closure Day

A reminder that there will be a School Closure day on Tuesday 1st April. On this day all staff will be attending professional development with St Brendan's school in Shepparton.

The staff will be working at St Brendan's in Shepparton with three other Catholic schools from the region, as we continue our learning with the Magnify platform. The focus is The Knowledge Society, we will be discussing and working on the implementation of a common, evidence- informed Behaviour Curriculum which focuses on calm, orderly and reliable learning environments.  We have already started this work at St John's and are looking forward to the next steps.  We can have the best curriculum in the world but without calm, orderly and reliable classrooms there is reduced impact for student achievement and teacher effectiveness.

Curriculum Night

Thank you to the parents who attended the Curriculum night, where teachers shared how the curriculum across the school is developed and delivered. We intend to hold this evening each year.  The staff were very pleased to receive positive feedback from parents about the evening.

School Photos

School photos day is on Thursday 27th March.  Time to make sure everything is ready for the big day.  All children with longer hair need to have it tied up as per usual wearing their summer uniforms.  This year we are using a new company; all transactions will be digital and through the company.  Information was sent home last week, please get in touch with Bek if you did not receive the payment envelope.

School Uniform

Wearing a school uniform fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and equality among students. It creates a positive school identity, helps minimise distractions, and ensures that all children feel included. Uniforms also encourage responsibility and prepare students for future expectations in life and work. At St. John’s, we appreciate the support of families in maintaining our uniform standards, helping to create a respectful and focused learning environment for all. A few points to note: - children should only be wearing studs and small sleepers in their ears for safety reasons.  Nail polish is not permitted on school days.  There are many choices for the children to wear the uniform that is most comfortable for them.

Sick Children

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home.  There are quite a few bugs around at the moment.  If your child is away, please let us know either through Simon Everywhere or a phone call to the office.

2026 Enrolments

Enrolments are open for 2026. If you need an Enrolment package or know of anyone who would like one, please collect one from the front office.

Have a lovely week,

Libby (on behalf of Therese)
