Head of Year 9 & 10 News

Mr Bill Moloney

As we reflect on the success of Term 1, there is much to celebrate across our Year 9 and 10 cohorts.

Year 9 Success

In Year 9, 32 out of 46 students achieved all A and B grades for their effort and behaviour. This is a truly remarkable achievement and something the students should be very proud of. Additionally, another 8 students are incredibly close to reaching this goal.

As a cohort, we’ve set a target of having 40 out of 46 students achieving Level 2 – and based on these results, we are well on our way. These numbers are outstanding, with approximately 70% of students already reaching the A/B benchmark, and another 17% close behind.

Despite the disruption caused by the cyclone in Term 1, Year 9 students maintained strong attendance, finishing with an impressive 91.2% overall.

Year 10 Progress

Our Year 10 students also had a great start to the year. 24 out of 65 students achieved all A and B grades for effort and behaviour, and a further 13 students are within reach of this target. Overall attendance for the cohort was 91.34%, a commendable result and a great sign of student engagement and commitment.

Looking Ahead to Term 2

Yesterday morning, we hosted a Year 9 breakfast with parents and guardians, where students shared their academic and personal goals. Nearly a third of our cohort attended, a fantastic turnout considering how busy families are. Thank you to all the parents who took time to support their child’s learning journey through this meaningful activity.

For Year 10, we’re excited to be launching a new mentoring program. For the first time, our Level 2 students will be mentoring Year 9s, engaging in purposeful conversations with both students and teachers about effort, behaviour and positive habits. We believe the power of peer mentoring can make a real impact, and we’re excited to see these relationships grow.

Finally, last Wednesday, I spoke with the junior cohort about classroom disruptions. We discussed the impact disruption has on others’ learning and on teaching. Since then, it’s been pleasing to see a noticeable shift in classroom environments – with most rooms being calm and conducive to learning.

We’re looking forward to another fantastic Term ahead.
