In today’s digital age, social media is a prominent part of our daily lives, especially for our students who use it to share moments, connect with friends and express themselves. While social media offers many benefits, it also comes with responsibilities, particularly when it involves posting images of others, at school or in school uniform.
Toogoolawah State High School strives to create a safe and respectful environment, both at school and online. Therefore, we would like to remind our school community about the importance of responsible social media use, especially regarding sharing images that include other students, teachers and staff.
One of the fundamental principles of responsible social media use is obtaining consent before taking images or videos that feature others. While at school, in uniform, only the school can consent to images to be shared publicly.
Additionally, Mobile Phones are to be ‘away for the day’ and lockers are to be used between 8:45am and 3pm. Therefore, any images taken during school hours are also a breach of the School Mobile Phone Policy. The School's Social Media Policy also expects students to respect the reputation of the school and any actions while in school uniform may affect this.
Students have been reminded of this on Parade by the Principal and it has been suggested that students and parents attend to their Social Media profiles and ‘clean them up’ or risk consequences in accordance with the School’s Code of Conduct.
