Learning

Towards the end of this term, we will be publishing our first student reports at Balambalam Primary School. This is an important milestone for our school as we continue to build strong and consistent reporting practices.

Over recent weeks, our staff have been working together to engage in professional learning about our reporting process. This has included developing a shared understanding of what our reports will look like, how achievement will be reported, and how evidence of student learning is used to make informed teacher judgements.

Staff have also been working together to moderate student learning and work habits. This means teachers have been discussing and comparing evidence to support consistency across the school. For example, staff have considered what behaviours align with the different standards in our Work Habits section, as well as what evidence helps determine the progression point a student has demonstrated in their learning.

As this is our first reporting cycle as a new school, this shared professional learning is an important part of building a consistent approach for students and families.

As part of current industrial action, written comments will not be included in this semester’s reports. Families will still receive important information about their child’s achievement and learning behaviours through the report.

We also understand the importance of families having the opportunity to speak with their child’s teacher. Later this term, we will be scheduling an opportunity for families to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s progress, strengths and next steps for learning.

We thank our staff for the care and professionalism they have shown throughout this process, and we thank families for their understanding and continued partnership as we prepare to share our first semester reports.

Warm regards,
