Principal Connections

It is hard to believe we are already in Week 6 of Term 2! Our classrooms are alive with creativity, collaboration, and deep learning. I encourage you to ask your child about what they are currently learning in class and make sure you put our Open Afternoons in a couple of weeks into your diary. Thank you to our dedicated staff and supportive community for maintaining this energetic learning environment.

Preparing for a Great Day at School

Strong learning habits begin before students even arrive at school. A calm, consistent morning routine can make a significant difference to a child’s engagement, wellbeing and achievement throughout the day.

A nutritious breakfast helps fuel concentration, energy and readiness for learning. We encourage families to be mindful of the sugar content in some cereals and breakfast foods, and to aim for balanced, healthy options wherever possible. To support our families, Breakfast Club runs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:20am, providing students with a positive and nourishing start to the day.

Arriving on time is also important. Classrooms open at 8:40am, giving students time to unpack and get organised. From 8:40am to 8:45am, students participate in a soft start to the day. This is an opportunity for students to come into the classroom and begin to set up for their day.  They can unpack their bags and say hello to friends.  The bell rings at 8:45am and learning begins.  Classes move into circle time for approx. 5-10 minutes and are intentionally focused on connection, relationships and helping every child feel settled, welcomed and ready to learn.

While we have seen pleasing improvements, a small number of students are still arriving late. Being in the classroom, settled and ready before the second bell, helps ensure children do not miss this important connection time or valuable learning that follows.

A good night’s sleep is another key factor in helping children thrive at school. Most primary-aged children need around 10 hours of sleep each night. Reducing screen time before bed and encouraging calming routines, such as reading, can support better sleep and improve focus the next day.

By working together to prioritise healthy eating, punctuality, positive relationships and consistent sleep routines, we can continue to support every child to have a positive and successful day at school.

Uniform at Balambalam Primary School

As the mornings become cooler, please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform.   As a brand-new school, our uniform plays an important role in building a strong sense of identity, pride and belonging within our community. Wearing the Balambalam Primary School uniform helps students feel connected to one another and reinforces that we are all part of something special that we are building together.

School uniforms also promote equality, reduce distractions and help students develop a sense of responsibility and school pride. We appreciate the support of our families in ensuring students arrive each day dressed in the correct uniform.

To help keep students warm during the colder months, we have long sleeve uniform tops available, which can also be comfortably layered with additional clothing underneath while still maintaining the school uniform. We are also excited to introduce our new Balambalam Primary School beanies, which are perfect for chilly mornings and outdoor playtimes.

All uniform items, including our new beanies, can be purchased through Noone. We encourage families to purchase directly through the Noone Uniform Shop in Clyde North to ensure students are wearing the correct approved school uniform items.

Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to seeing you around the school or at drop off!

Warm regards,
