The Pen - A Record of Our Story Since 1964

Originally known as The Peninsula School Journal, the first edition was published at the end of 1964. From the beginning, it was more than a record of School life. It created space for students to contribute their own voices through writing, artwork and photography, with editing led by students under the guidance of Senior English Master Mr Laurie Arter.
Over time, the publication has become a steady thread in the life of the School. Each edition has captured the rhythm of the year. Principal reports, class photographs, music and sport, student achievement and staff contributions all sit together, creating a shared record of what mattered in that moment. It has marked arrivals and farewells, celebrated milestones and quietly documented the growth of generations of students.
The format has evolved, from its early A5 booklet to a larger A4 publication, and in 1981 it became known as The Pen. Yet its purpose has remained consistent. It reflects the life of the School and the people within it.
Published every year since 1964, with the exception of 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, The Pen continues to hold an important place in our community. It captures not only achievement, but also the character, effort and aspiration that sit behind it.
In doing so, it connects today’s students with those who came before them. Each edition adds to a shared story, one that grows over time and reflects what it means to be part of Peninsula Grammar.
