A Place to Perform

Celebration and Creativity in Drama

What a term it has been for Drama across the School. From the Junior School to our senior cohorts, students at every level have been working creatively and the results have been extraordinary.

Our Junior School students have spent the last four weeks of term channelling their energy into something very exciting: the upcoming Mini Musical, to be performed at the start of Term 3. Drama lessons have extended well beyond simply learning lines, with students developing their ability to portray characters in an expressive and engaging way. Using body language, facial expressions, and gestures, they are learning how to communicate emotions and connect their performances to the story being told. Whether performing a lead role or as part of the ensemble, every student plays an important part in bringing the production to life and showcasing their individual character performance - including the animals.

Meanwhile, students in Years 5 to 8 have been building a powerful set of skills through their Drama classes this term - confidence, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These four pillars run through everything they do on stage and off, and it is wonderful to see them grow as performers and as people. That growth is about to take centre stage in the most spectacular way, with our Middle School Production of Frozen Junior shaping up to be something truly special. With over 100 students from Years 5 to 8 involved, our cast and crew have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes, dedicating countless hours to rehearsals, singing, dancing, acting, and bringing the magic of Frozen to life. They are absolute superstars, and we cannot wait to share their talents with our School community.

Show dates: Friday 11th September at 7pm, and Saturday 12th September at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets will go on sale through Term 3, so keep an eye out in Zenith for more information.

Across both semesters, Years 5 to 8 have explored a rich range of styles and traditions. Year 5 have engaged with storytelling inspired by First Nations stories - a meaningful exploration of culture and performance. Year 6 have tackled melodrama and puppetry, both forms demanding strong creative character work. Year 7 have stepped into the shadowy world of Film Noir, crafting mystery stories with atmosphere and intrigue, alongside developing rich, complex characters. Year 8 have explored the art of Breaking News performances before turning inward for their deeply personal and courageous Life Monologues. Year 9 brought the beloved comedy Puffs to life with wit and energy, weaving in an exploration of design. Year 10 have explored comedy and now look forward to working with the Malthouse Theatre on the Suitcase Series - connecting students with real industry practice. Our Year 12 students rounded out the term with a masterful performance of The 39 Steps, a fitting showcase of everything they have developed throughout their years in Drama & Theatre Studies.

We are so proud of the commitment, enthusiasm, and teamwork our students have shown at every year level.
