Mr Daniel Bull - Assistant Head of College - Mission (Acting)

Prayers

We remember in prayer Dr Sally Towns who has passed away after a long battle with cancer. As the Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education, Dr Sally was a highly esteemed leader with a passion for Catholic Education who was truly committed to the students, staff and families of schools throughout the Archdiocese of Brisbane. As we give thanks for Dr Sally’s lasting contribution to Catholic Education, we pray with her family, friends and colleagues who grieve her passing. May Sally be received into God’s everlasting embrace.

Gospel Reflection

Ascension of Jesus: Matthew 28

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations”

Over the last few weeks we have been listening to Jesus talk about his final departure. On Ascension Day the risen Jesus meets the disciples in Galilee and gives them the Great Commission. He allows the disciples to worship him. He declares that all authority designated to the Jewish God “I Am” is also His authority. And with this revelation he sends the first Christians to the ends of the earth, commanding them to baptise and teach in His name, a message St. Champagnat took seriously. The Gospel finishes with the promise that the Holy Spirit will be with them always in their evangelising mission. So, what does the Feast of the Ascension mean for us? It does not mean that has Jesus departed to some distant corner of this universe – which is still part of our physical reality. The Ascension means Jesus no longer belongs to this world of corruption and death at all. He exemplifies the heavenly reality we are all called to. Jesus, the eternal son, led our human existence into God’s presence. Jesus’ reveals a transfigured ‘way of being’ that awaits us at the end of our lives. Like a confirmation stamp, the Ascension certifies Jesus’ life and actions as the perfect visible image of the universal God. In the words of Karl Barth, the Ascension is God’s “Yes” to humankind.

Eternal life is not simply about the future, but about living in communion with Christ now. In a spirit of communion Jesus sends the disciples into world to invite all nations into this everlasting relationship. The early Marists took up this call completely, as exemplified by St. Peter Chanel. So, in the Month of Mary, may we look also to her faithful “yes” as an example. Like Mary, we are called to carry Christ to others with humility, modesty, and simplicity in our own evangelising mission today.

Prayer: As we journey through the Month of May let us lean into the beautiful example of our Mother Mary. Let us embody her gentle spirit as we go through the term and draw on her humility as we deal with one another.

Mary our Good Mother, pray for us.

St Marcellin Champagnat, pray for us.

St Mary of the Cross, pray for us.

And let us always remember, to pray for one another.

Amen.

Marist 180 Free Dress Day

Gallery Image

This Friday 22 May is a Free Dress Day to raise money and awareness for Marist180’s Noel Appeal. Marist180 is a Marist organisation working with at-risk young people and their families inspiring and equipping them to live fulfilling lives and contribute to the common good.

For young people in Marist180’s care, Christmas is a difficult, challenging reminder that they are in someone else's care, disconnected from family, unable to celebrate the festive season with them. Marist180 shares Christmas joy with these children and young people by offering them the gifts of their choice. Our college has an opportunity to contribute to this important appeal and make a difference in the lives of young people at risk.

Funds will be collected before school and during Pastoral Group via student ID CARD. Students will have the option of a $2, $5 and $10 donation.

Vinnies Fortnightly Breakfast BBQ

On Thursday, we reignited our Vinnies BBQ for the first time since early 2025. Selling Bacon and Egg muffins in the morning, the rain was not able to stop a keen Vinnies crew from cooking up a storm and serving over 50 students. The BBQ raises funds for the Vinnies group and ensures that they can complete their initiatives throughout the year in the community.

Thanks to Old Boy Hamish Macdonald, who donated a large amount of bacon for the BBQ.

The Vinnies barbie is set to continue every second Thursday.
