2026 Year 10 Work Experience
Now that our Year 10 Work Experience Week has successfully concluded, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all staff involved in supporting the program.
We are very pleased that all of our Year 10 students participated in this valuable experience. Despite language barriers and the challenges of stepping into unfamiliar environments, it was wonderful to see students move outside their comfort zones and engage confidently with the wider community and workplace settings.
The week provided students with meaningful opportunities to develop independence, communication skills, and confidence, while also gaining insight into different industries and future career pathways. It has truly been a rewarding and valuable experience for them. Here are some of the positive feedback comments shared by our students:
Kumi (Family Life Op Shop): During my work experience at a Family Life Op Shop, I learned a lot about working in a team and helping customers. I arranged and sorted donations and used a register. I also learned about the recycling cycle, where unsold items are sent to other shops instead of being wasted. I really enjoyed this experience; it helped me improve my teamwork skills and be more confident.
Stella (Phoenix Kitchen): Throughout this work experience, I have done some work such as ordering, making food, cleaning dishes and running food. During this week, I fully practiced my organizational and conversational skills. I literally like this work, the employer and other kitchen helpers are really kind.
Wilson ( Barro Group): My main task was changing office files and printing safety rules for the staff. I carefully checked all the office files every day. My leader Mr Borobokas was nice and patient to teach me basic office work. I learned to be careful and follow workplace rules. This work experience gave me useful experience. I improved my sense of responsibility and learned how to work well in an office.
Bowen (Cheltenham PS) : Working experience at Cheltenham Primary School from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., was such a valuable experience. I helped teachers with class tasks and supported young pupils with their studies. I learnt to be patient, responsible and good at communicating with kids. This experience taught me teamwork and made me understand how hard teachers work. I really enjoyed this meaningful work experience.
Shaunen (Cheltenham PS): During my one-week work experience at Cheltenham Primary School, I helped out the teachers with whatever needed doing. After finishing up with the Art teacher one day, I had a quiet moment and did two quick sketches. The Art teacher noticed them, complimented my drawings, and showed all the class students. I learned a bit about how primary teachers work, and it was an interesting experience.
Special Gift to the School
We were delighted to welcome back a former international student, Mr Yang to the school on the 4th of May, who generously made a donation of $2001.00 to our school community.
The amount holds special meaning, as 2001 was the year he began his studies here.
When asked what he would like the donation to support, he expressed his wish for it to contribute towards the new Arts and Technology area.
We sincerely thank him for his generosity and ongoing connection to our school. It is always wonderful to see former students giving back and supporting future generations.
