Level 2: Connect

Hats must be worn during all breaks. Please ensure your child has their SEPS broad-brimmed hat at school each day, as part of our SunSmart policy.

Just a friendly reminder that there will be no school on Monday and Tuesday. We hope you all enjoy the extra-long weekend and look forward to seeing the students back on Wednesday.

What a Wonderful Few Weeks!

Students have had a fantastic couple of weeks of learning and fun! They especially enjoyed Market Day, embracing the spirit of the event with great enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see everyone engaged in the activities, working together, and celebrating the day with such excitement and positivity.

Literacy

Core Literacy

Week 3:Students explored the bound morphemes -cious and -tious, learning words such as precious and ambitious. They also learnt about homonyms — words that are spelled and pronounced the same but have different meanings — such as bat (an animal) and bat (used in sport), or nail (on our fingers) and nail (a piece of metal).

Week 4:Students focused on another bound morpheme, -cial and -tial, with examples such as beneficial and influential. They also learnt about homographs — words that are spelled the same but have different meanings and pronunciations — such as bass (a type of fish) and bass (a low sound), or minute (60 seconds) and minute (something very small).

Looking Ahead:

  • Week 5: Students will review the concepts from Weeks 3 and 4 and begin learning about contractions.
  • Week 6: Students will explore verb tense and how to use different word forms to match the tense in their writing.

Persuasive Writing

Over the next two weeks, students will be learning about persuasive writing and how to share their opinions in a clear and convincing way. They will explore how to express what they think and give reasons to support their ideas. Together, we’ll look at examples of persuasive texts and talk about what makes them effective.

Students will also have fun practising how to write and talk persuasively about familiar topics, such as favourite foods, pets, or school activities. This learning will help them understand how words can be used to influence others and encourage them to think carefully about how to explain their ideas.

Retelling Stories

During reading, students will focus on developing strategies to help them retell stories they have been reading. They will learn to identify key events, use sequencing words such as first, next, then, and finally, and practise retelling stories in their own words. These activities will help strengthen their comprehension skills and deepen their understanding of story structure.

Maths

In Math we have been focusing on division and multiplication. We have been using our understandings to solve worded problems using the CUBES strategy.

C- circle important numbers.

U- Underline the question

B- Box important words

E- Evaluate the appropriate way to solve problem

S- Check your Solution.

During the next couple of weeks, we will be revising various units while completing assessments in Math.

How Do Families and Communities Celebrate Growing Up?

In our Inquiry unit, students will explore the question “How do families and communities celebrate and show that we are growing up? They will discuss and compare the many ways families and cultural groups acknowledge important milestones and stages of development. Through stories, discussions, and shared experiences, students will develop an understanding of how different traditions, celebrations, and customs reflect the ways people recognise growth and change within their communities.
