Thank-you for all the beautiful messages for World Teacher's Day and the lovely morning tea provided. We absolutely loved it and it was extremely thoughtful.
SEPS IDOL
Shout out to Evie C, Evie I, Erin and Willa who performed a dance last week at SEPS IDOL! We are all so proud of you - well done for being so brave!

Literacy
In our recent literacy lessons, students have been learning about about how to make words plural. They understand that by making it plural it means 'more than one'. Additionally, the suffix ending 'ing' has been taught. In class, students will write a base word 'eg. hunt' and then add the suffix ending 'ing', to make a new word - 'hunting'. The new phoneme 'all' as in 'ball' is being consolidated and linked well with the market day 'stalls' they experienced last week. We will continue to consolidate the 'magic e' rule over the next few weeks and gain exposure to prefixes.
Word lists that you can practise at home

Heart words
This week we have been learning consolidating the heart words 'do,'my' and 'look' and learning 'use'. We have been testing students heart words in reading and also their ability to write them in isolation.

Writing
We have been exploring how narratives have a beginning, middle and end, and students are learning to create their own stories by looking at a picture to guide their thoughts. They are no longer just responding to what they can see in the picture, but using their imagination to guide their thought process and structure their ideas. Structuring a coherent, legible sentence that students can read back is key for the development at this stage in the year. Additionally, boundary punctuation such as capital letters and full stops are paramount in students understanding sentence structure when writing.

Over the past fortnight, Foundation students have been exploring the concept of Money in preparation for Market Day. They have been getting familiar with Australian coins and notes, creating beautiful coin etchings and informative posters about Australian currency, which will be displayed in our classrooms.
We also revisited Time, thinking about what happens first, next, and last, and reviewing the days of the week. In our Capacity investigations, students compared containers to see which had a small or large capacity and discussed how much different objects can hold.
Students have also been delving into additive thinking, exploring how numbers can be broken apart and put back together again in different ways. It’s been wonderful to see their mathematical thinking grow—keep it up, Foundation!

Kind regards,
