Broad bean picking week. One of my favourite jobs in the garden at the moment is picking and tasting our fresh beans. The giant pods house 4 to 5 yummy seeds in the best fluffy sleeping bag that only nature could create.

A fun Broadbean activity is guessing how many seeds in each pod. Many students found the guessing game easy and the final taste test the best reward.

Lots of produce to harvest in our garden and lots of produce to come, our cherry and pear trees are loaded with tiny fruit, whilst our grape vines are bursting with bunches of grapes.

Our weather has been a focus in our garden this fortnight, we have been checking our rain gauges and thermometers and talkng about how these measurements impact our garden and our wider environment.
Next week we are making our own rain gauges to place around our school to collect rainfall data. Look forward to sharing our findings.

As St. Aś gardeners we often chat about good bugs and bad bugs. Last week we went on a bug hunt and found beneficial bugs for our growing beds - worms, bees, ladybugs, beetles and not so beneficial bugs aphids, cabbage moths and caterpillars. We noted that all bugs play a role in creating a healthy eco system and biodiversity is an important environemental goal.

Animal of the Week......
We wanted to introduce our animal of the week. It came down to three of our most popular furry friends, Hazelnut the rabbit, Elsa the chicken and Galaxy the guinea pig. After a group discussion and vote.........

Hazelnut our rabbit got the majority of the votes. She enjoys munching through her carrots and is happy to have her fluffy coat brushed.
Well done Hazelnut.
We are also looking for parent helpers to assist in kitchen or garden. Parents from prep to 4s are happy to contact us to assist.
