What's Happening in

Year 3 & 4

This term in Year 3/4 has been full of fun, hands-on learning and new adventures!

In Reading and Writing, we’ve loved exploring Charlotte’s Web. We’ve been learning how authors build characters, describe settings, and write engaging narratives and factual recounts.

This Term, the year 3/4s have been reading Charlotte's Web in Literacy. We have been loving reading the book, my favourite part so far… is when Wilbur first meets Charlotte, and we have been learning how to improve our sentences, vocabulary and write narratives. We are so excited to continue reading it and learn more!— Philippa, 3/4K

In Maths, we’ve been busy collecting and investigating data, exploring 3D shapes, and practising our multiplication and division skills through games and challenges.

In 3/4 we have been learning about lots of different things in Maths. This term we have looked at data and 3D shapes. When we are learning about data we have been learning to read and make graphs. I investigated how many siblings my classmates have. Right now, we are learning all about 3D shapes. I have learnt that they are made out of 2D shapes. Our favourite activity has been cutting out the nets and folding them into 3-dimensional shapes.— Ariel, 3/4K

Our Inquiry focus this term has been Australian History, where we’ve learned about the First Fleet, the early colonies, and how life changed for different groups of people. One of the biggest highlights was our excursion to Sovereign Hill!

On Thursday morning, we arrived at school early for the Sovereign Hill excursion. When we got on the bus, we had a two and a half hour drive there. We made a stop for an hour in Melton to stretch our legs.

When we arrived, we had our fruit snack because we were hungry. It was cool because when we were eating, we were surrounded by old-fashioned buildings and a horse and cart.

After our snack, we went up the hill to make colourful candles.  Next, we had an activity called "Living in the Past." It was about how people dressed and how they learned in the gold rush era. We also went into the mines. It was so cool because they displayed a gold nugget. It was amazing, even though it was dark and some people were scared.

We also did gold panning. Some people found gold. Then we went to the gift shop to buy gold and lollies.

On the way back, the trip was a bit over two and a half hours because there was heavy traffic. The bus went into a tunnel, and it was interesting because there were a lot of lights and people were singing. Some were exhausted and went to sleep. It was a long day for all three classes of students.— Zak and Lily, 3/4K

It’s been an exciting term of learning, exploring, and creating together. We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved and can’t wait for what’s ahead next year!
