Writing
In writing, we have been finishing off our narratives and utlising the editing skills that we have developed throughout the year, to produce a robust story. We have been focused on using dialogue in stories and correctly punctuating with talking marks. We have also started our poetry unit. We have learnt about Cinquain and Diamante poems. These poems use adjectives and verbs to immerse the reader in imagery, activating the imagination and feelings. We have previously looked at adjectives and verbs, so we were well equipped to write poems!
Mathematics
In Mathematics we have been discovering patterns. We have built on our previous knowledge of addition and subtraction to explore patters on repeated addition and how this a way of breaking down multiplication and division. We have looked at the patterns that form on a 100-chart, using repeated addition and started to identify how we can easily solve 2-, 5-, and 10-times tables.
Reading
In reading we have reestablished our weekly reading groups, after lots of testing, and have been working on our reading, at the appreciate level. We have also looked at what makes a good inference when reading and considered both text and illustrations/pictures. Finally, we have reviewed text features and what makes a book fiction or non-fiction.
Humanities
We have been exploring Australia's flags and emblems. We have also looked at our special days in Australia and the events that brought about their elevation. We have started researching a few prominent events to justify our opinion on a new National day to be celebrated.
