Over the past two weeks we have been very busy completing assessments to inform our report writing. I am so proud of all students for the growth they have shown across all curriculum areas. Well done everyone.
In Literacy we have continued learning about letters of the alphabet and what sounds these letters make when they are together. Last week we learnt about y at the end of words making an ee sound in words such as Mummy, Daddy, funny and Lucy. This week we have been learning about the long i sound made by igh in words such as high, might, sight and fright. We have continued on refining our sentence writing and have worked on our handwriting and spelling of heart words. Students have been editing their sentences to ensure they have an uppercase letter to begin, spaces between words and ending punctuation. They have then upleveled their sentence with adjectives.
In Numeracy, we have been revising all areas of the curriculum with hands on materials, songs and charts to help us write the numerals the correct way. This week we revised making equal groups and sharing equally, location language, addition and subtraction plus two dimensional shapes.
We welcome Ms Caity from University into our classroom. Ms Caity will be with us for twenty one days, so introduce yourself and make her feel welcome.
In ICT we have been using Word, adding shapes and filling them with colour to make a picture. We have also practised our reading skills with Reading Eggs and maths skills with Mathletics. In Auslan we have been practising animal words and actions. In History we have learnt about school life a long time ago and how this is similar and different to today's schools.
Well done to Audrey and Noah H who were chosen as our student achievers for showing increased resilience at school. Prep Guy are so proud of you both.
A special shout out to all of my students, who have embraced the crazy weeks of assessment with patience, understanding, motivation and enthusiasm! I am so incredibly proud of all of you! ❤️
🔤 In English, students have continued exploring their digraph sounds, such as ar, or, aw, ir, ur, er, air, oo, le, ow and ou. These important sounds are being reinforced through reading, writing, and spelling activities. Students have also been diving deeper into narrative elements and personal recounts. This has been a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their phonics knowledge in context while developing their writing skills. We have also explored persuasive writing where students had to convince Anya or myself that their chosen treat was the best and why. On Remembrance Day and the days prior, we learnt about Australia and other countries history and bravery, whilst exploring the importance of paying our respects to our service men, women and animals. Finding Winnie - The World's Most Famous Bear was a favourite in our classroom, I encourage you to look it up on YouTube as a read aloud to listen and watch again with your children, as it's inspired by a true story and shows where A. A. Milne's inspiration came from for the famous characters Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and their friends in the hundred acre wood.
🔢 In Mathematics, students have been consolidating their understanding of measurement, length, capacity and duration, using formal and informal units. These skills are being practised through hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks that support the development of mental computation and flexible thinking. We used classroom items and our bodies to measure the length of items in our outdoor learning environment and made our own boats to test elements of capacity, balance, floating and sinking.
🍃 In Auslan, students have been revising commands and concepts such as sit, stand, toilet, quiet, wash hands, play, and line up. These signs are used daily in the classroom to support routine and inclusion, and students are developing confidence in using Auslan to communicate and follow instructions in a respectful and engaging way.
I have been a bit slack on checking our reading journals. We have been doing lots of assessment and preparing for reports, so I hope to catch up on this again soon. Thank-you to my students for your patience and understanding.
We celebrate reading milestones in our classroom with a special board - each time a student progresses to a new Reading Night goal, we colour a box.
Keep up the reading, students and families! Regular and consistent reading makes a powerful impact on your child’s learning across all areas of the curriculum, as well as supporting their confidence and wellbeing.

Leo has officially been to everyone's house in our classroom! Leo is now our classroom companion and has 'retired' from his busy schedule of meeting everyone's families and becoming a part of your everyday lives. We will continue to share our Leo's Journey book in our classroom, where we can strengthen our connections to one another and our lives.
Our Student Achiever last week was Amelia and this week is Billie! Congratulations on being our Student Achievers! I am so proud of your efforts, both in and out of the classroom. Keep making good choices, helping others, being a kind friend, focusing on your learning and following our school values of being a Respectful Wren, Responsible Ringtail and Resilient Red Kangaroo!

Wow, what a busy couple of weeks we have had in the classroom. Students in 1/2M have been busy doing assessments, and I am so proud of everyone's growth!!
You are all Super Stars! 🎇🎇🎇
Just a reminder with the warmer weather, can you please make sure your student has a hat 🤠🤠 and brings a bottle of water 💦💦. Thank you.
Remembrance Day

All students in 1/2M learnt about the importance of Remembrance Day and how the soldiers fought in the war to keep us safe. We made Poppies, we wrote about "We will remember them" and joined in a minute's silence.
We learnt about the Poem "In Flanders Field" and "The Ode".
We all spoke about the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and what role they play in keeping Australia safe.
All things Maths!!

In Maths, our Grade 1/2 students have been busy exploring Measurement in lots of hands-on ways. We investigated length, width and height by comparing and measuring our shoes, and explored mass and capacity by designing and testing foil boats to see how much weight they could hold before sinking. We also learned about position and location using our Bee Bots and iPad coding programs, practising how to move forward, backwards, left and right to create simple pathways and solve challenges. The students have loved learning through experimentation, problem-solving and teamwork!
Literacy

In Literacy, we have been learning about Homophones. Students have been looking at different words that sound the same, but are spelt differently and have a different meaning. Students have had to practice putting a range of different homophones into a sentence, and make sure they use the correct one.

Christmas 🎄🎄
Over the coming weeks, you will see your child start to come home with a lot of their learning books, name tags, etc. That is just to make room for our Christmas learning 🎅🎁🎄, Mrs Murphy loves doing Christmas in the classroom, and students will still be learning but it will be Christmas related.
