Sustainability

In October the Year 4 students had a Materials Matter incursion run by Yasmin from Cleanaway. We learned about waste and recyclable materials and there is a possibility that some local councils might introduce purple bins for glass recycling. Also did you know that if you put electronics, especially batteries in the recycling bin there is a chance that they can go BOOM! , so take your batteries to Officeworks to be recycled safely. By the way, try to recycle as many things as you can and don`t put them in the garbage (landfill) bin.
We also learned that our green waste bin goes to a big pile and is made into compost and then it goes to stores like Bunnings Warehouse to be sold.
The contents of the red bin goes to landfill (a big hole in the ground), it gets buried forever and it makes the soil unhealthy and the ground can`t hold it anymore, it also emits methane into the earth which is bad.
We are taking too many natural resources and it can take 100's years to restore. Recycling is great for the environment.

We have started 'We Care Wednesdays' this term.
Please encourage your child to take part in some way each Wednesday.
Also if you have any fabric you can donate to Mrs Hutchinson's class to make "sustainable squishies", that would be amazing.
