Foundation
Foundation students have been involved in Music All Around us by looking at Music for Dance and Music that Tells a Story. Students have explored Rock ‘n’ Roll dancing and have enjoyed the Hokey Pokey. They have also examined ballet, with students dancing to The Barnyard Ballet and Two Deedle Ducks. They have also explored Sound Effects and Sound Stories by listening and responding to a Balloon Journey.
Year One
Year One students have explored Music All Around Us. They have examined music from different times, lands and purposes and music that tells a story. The students have danced to songs such as Miss Polly Rap, Knees Up Mother Brown, and Going On A Bear Hunt. They have used their voices, body percussion and percussion instruments to make descriptive music to tell a story.
Year Two
This term, the theme for music has been Music All Around Us. They have explored music from different times, lands and purposes. For example, students played, sang and danced to the African song Banuwa and the Danish song Han Skal Leve. They have also studied music that tells a story. The students have danced to the Barn Dance, The Shoemakers’ Dance and the ballet dance The Four Seasons Ballet.
Year Three
The Year Three students have explored Music from different times, lands and purposes. They have also looked at Music for Dancing and Music that tells a story. The students have looked at the classical piece The Blue Danube, music from Japan and Indonesia, music for relaxing such as Tai Chi and a dance in threes called The Blacksmith. They have also looked at ballet music. The students have examined the musical elements of beat, tempo and dynamics.
Year Four
In Year Four this term the students have studied Exploring Sound by producing Musical Pictures and have studied Music All Around Us by song and dance. They have listened and produced a symbol map of the musical piece The Nutcracker Suite. The students have examined songs with actions such as The Doodlie Do and will have sung the song Oh Hele Le from East Timor. They have looked at song and dance from Colonial Australia – for example The Old Bark Hut and the bush dance The Galopede.
Year Five and Six
The Year Five and Sixes have been involved consolidating the various musical elements that we have learned throughout the year. Students have examined musical symbols, keeping the beat, different time signatures, and different rhythm patterns. They have also explored the world of electronic music using Chrome Lab. For example, students have composed and performed their own compositions combining the elements of rhythm, beat and melody.

Friday 28 November : Christmas Carols at Black Rock Village – 5pm onwards – Glee Club Christmas Carols Choir to perform.
Wednesday 3 December : Christmas Carols at Black Rock House – 6pm onwards – Glee Club Christmas Carols Choir to perform.
Thursday 4 December : Community Christmas Carols at Black Rock Primary School – 3.45pm onwards - all year levels to sing their Christmas Carol & Glee Club Christmas Carols Choir to perform.
