In The 'Classroom'

What have we been learning about in Physical Education?

Foundation

During November the Foundation students completed their final PE assessments for the year, showcasing their skills in Athletics and Target Games. It is fantastic to see how far they have come in their first year of PE. To finish the year, the Foundation classes are going back over some of the fundamental motor skills of throwing, catching and striking as they focus on Striking and Fielding skills similar to cricket and tee-ball.

Year 1 - 3

The students' in Year's 1, 2 and 3 have completed their assessments on Athletics and Target Games, showing great enthusiasm and progress. To conclude the year we are playing modified Striking and Fielding games including 'Centipede Cricket', 'Chuck the Chicken' and 'Whacky Baseball' as well as revising fundamental motor skills such as throwing, catching and bouncing.

Year 4 - 6

During November the senior students (including our soon to be senior students, the Year 4's) completed their final assessments admirably, showing some great improvements. They are finishing their PE learning for the year with a focus on Striking and Fielding games. They are applying their skills in two handed striking using cricket and tee ball bats and working in a team to achieve a fielding goal. Students' are being guided to apply their game sense as to where to hit gaps with the bat or where to throw the ball to limit the runs for the opposition. For the Year 4's and 5's this serves the duel purpose of introducing them to sports that they may be playing in Inter-School Sport during Term One of next year.

Gymnastics

During Week 7 and Week 8 the students have tested their skills using a variety of different gymnastics apparatus hired through Gymnastics 4 Hire. All year levels have developed or improved skills in balances, parallel bars, mini trampolines, high bars, balance beam, cartwheels, handstands and many more. It has been very impressive to see students improving so quickly in just a two week period and working so independently as they move around the many stations and activities.
