Year 4 Urban Gardening

In gardening this term we planted pumpkin seeds that have now sprouted and are ready to go into the main garden. It has been really fun to watch a plant grow from a seed. We have planted tomato seeds and now they are beginning to sprout on their own. We moved them to better spots in the garden and when they're big enough, we sell them in our year four market as well as potatoes and other yummy veggies. All of our plants are nourished from the compost we make at school and watered with worm juice that comes from our 3 worm farms. Now we have made our Year Four garden into a beautiful environment that we are proud of.

The Bug Group
Hi! I am Thomas O. During gardening I volunteered to teach our class about insects. At first I was nervous about the group because I thought no one would be interested in the subject but I tried it anyway.
The first group that I took was my own, the one that I was in during term one and two, the Busy Beez. During that first lesson the subject was earth's cleaners like the pill millipede. And I did that session for the rest of the class.
The next few weeks we went looking for insects and arachnids. Soon after that I had a huge group that wanted to find out about insects. Because everyone was committed I promised to bring in a Spiny leaf insect ( Extatosoma tiaratum).
Now my witness George N shall explain what happened in the lessons more thoroughly: Hello folks, in the first lesson we learnt about the pill millipede, that was a fun lesson, I remember my favourite lesson was when Thomas taught us about how earwigs work! That was terrifying, I also loved the lesson when he showed us a spider that encased itself in its own web to live longer, we then proceeded to find one and dangle it from another spider's web! How fun! A while after this was the lesson with the earwig and the spider, apparently, an earwig can crawl through a person’s ear and lays eggs and feast on their earwax! The spider on the other hand, had not big enough fangs to stab a human, so he was just a lil cutie patootie!
Thank you George N :)
For the last lesson I will bring the whole class and, hopefully, teach them about the insect I keep as a pet.
