An Inspiring Beat: Our African Drumming Workshop
Our three-year-old kindergarten has been a hub of rhythm and melody lately, as the children continue to show a keen interest in music and movement activities. We have been exploring different instruments, and currently, we are creating music related to the seven seasons of the Kulin Nation.
To further enrich their musical journey, we hosted a wonderfully engaging African Drumming Workshop last week. This experience truly celebrated rhythm and connection!
The children were introduced to different types of African drums, learning about their history and the unique sounds they produce. The excitement was palpable as every child was given their own drum to explore! They enthusiastically participated in a fun game that fostered incredible turn-taking, focus, and confidence. Each child had a moment to shine as the leader, creating a rhythm while their peers listened intently and then beautifully mimicked the beat.
The session culminated in a lively dance party to energising African beats! This hands-on, cultural experience was not only a joy but also highly beneficial, supporting key developmental skills in a collaborative and joyful environment.
It was a perfect way to connect our learning to the power of music and further understand the deep connection between Country, rhythm, and seasons.
