Cyber Security, Phishing emails and Device Care
🔸 Beware of Phishing Emails – Stay Safe Online
Over the past two months, St Mary’s College has seen an increase in scam emails, known as phishing emails. These emails are designed to trick you into clicking on harmful links or downloading dangerous attachments. If you do, scammers may steal personal information like your passwords, device details, or even your general location.
To stay safe, follow these simple steps when checking your emails:
Check who sent the email – In Gmail, click the ▼ next to the sender’s name. In Outlook, look for the email address inside < >.
Think before you click – If an email seems odd or unexpected, don’t open links or attachments. Ask an IT professional, teacher, or a tech-savvy friend or family member if you're unsure.
Delete suspicious emails – If you suspect an email is a scam, delete it. If you accidentally click or download something, tell an IT professional right away.
St Mary’s College is committed to keeping our community safe online. If you’re ever unsure about an email, don’t hesitate to ask for help!
🔸Laptop Care Reminder
St Mary’s College reminds all students to keep their laptops in a protective case or sleeve whenever they are not in use. When traveling to and from school, laptops should be securely stored in a bag to prevent damage.
To ensure your device stays in good condition, please follow these important guidelines:
Handle with care – Never run while holding your laptop.
Keep the keyboard clear – Always check for objects like pens, pencils, or erasers before closing the lid.
Use the laptop sleeve correctly – Only store your laptop inside; adding books or supplies can cause damage if dropped or crushed.
Report any damage – If your laptop is damaged, bring it to the ICT office for inspection and repairs.
Taking care of your laptop helps keep it working properly for your studies. Let’s all do our part to keep our devices safe!
