VCE Vocational Major
What a busy 5 weeks it has been in the Year 11 and 12 VCE Vocational Major classrooms. We have definitely hit the ground running!
Welcome to the new students that have joined us across Year 11 and 12 VCE VM.
The VCE VM Garden
Our garden, planted at the end of last year, got a good weed and watering by all the VCE VM students and is looking amazing. We can’t wait to get some seating in the area and begin to enjoy the shade from the trees as they grow.
Sausage Sizzle – Swimming Carnival
Well done to the VCE VM students who organised and ran a sausage sizzle at the College Swimming Carnival raising money for My Room. Thank you to all those that purchased sausages on the day, your support was greatly appreciated. We proudly raised $323 for My Room through this event.

St Patrick’s Day Ice Cream Caritas Fundraiser
Another successful fundraiser was held to support Caritas on St Patrick’s Day. Peppermint choc chip was the flavour of the day with vanilla and green sprinkles a close second. Well done to all the VCE VM students who scooped, cleaned, organised and served. It was wonderful to see the smiles on the students faces when they received their ice creams. We hope you all enjoyed your St Patrick’s Day treat.

Year 12 Artvo Excursion
On Tuesday 11th March the Year 12 VCE VM Personal Development class went on an excursion by train to Artvo. Artvo is an immersive gallery located in the Docklands precinct. Students had an amazing time taking photos as a team working towards getting the best picture of the day. The second purpose of the day was to introduce students to this side of the city where we haven’t ventured before. Well done to the students using a range of different tools to ensure we safely and efficiently made our way around the city.
For more on our excursion please see the amazing report below by one of our VCE VM students Olivia....
Immersed in Illusion
Year 12 VCE-VM Embracing Optical Art at Melbourne’s ArtVo
From canvas to reality, Year 12 VCE-VM stepped into the experience of optical illusions at Melbourne’s ArtVo. With over 100 paintings, we toured 7 differently themed zones detailing beautiful brush work which brought the paintings to life. The 15 international artists who dedicated up to 60 days of work created an incredibly immersive experience, capturing the attention and impressing the year 12 VCE-VM. Faced with a challenge of capturing the best photo, we broke into groups to tour the different areas. The overarching theme of ‘Fantasy’ consisted of underwater worlds, fairytale scenes, space adventures, flying and floating and dream like illusions with paintings of sea creatures, magical landscapes, cosmic artworks and surreal and whimsical environments. We each posed in paintings that suited our interests, some more than others, and captured several memorable photos.
The zones currently on exhibit are the Enchanted Room, Hippo Gondola Room, Sci-fi Room, Ocean Room, King Kong Room, Jet Ski Room and lastly the Illusions Room, totalling to 75 different paintings. Skillfully painted half on the floor, half on the wall, these paintings tricked viewers into seeing those in the painting as part of the painting. You could say we became a masterpiece. One of the commonly favourite zones was the Jet Ski Room which featured a 3D jet ski and octopus, completed with oceanic backgrounds. Featuring a bright palette of colours, this area proved to be great for group photos. One of the most interesting, and most avoided by Mrs. Wood, was the anamorphic art which depended on perspective distortion. The artwork is designed so that when you stand in a specific spot as marked on the floor, the painting aligns perfectly with the perspective, giving it that “pop-out” look and depth. However, when viewed on the side, you can see the 3D triangular shapes for which the illusion was painted on.
As per Mrs. Hard’s request, Year 12 VCE-VM posed together for a group photo in the Antarctic, the biggest painting ArtVo housed. With a large-scale painting of icebergs, polar bears, dinosaurs and a whale, the painting also portrayed a message of climate change. A story conveyed through subtle details about a polar bears reality as its home begins to melt. Thank you to Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Hard, Mrs. Maskelyne, and anyone else involved who planned and made this excursion possible. Year12 VCE-VM really appreciated your efforts and had a great time.
