Attendance

Student Attendance

Regular attendance at school is vital for each child’s academic progress and emotional wellbeing.

At Mitcham Primary School we have shared Attendance Hero posters at assembly and in all classrooms to highlight the importance of being punctual and at school.

An Attendance Hero is someone who is Here Everyday Ready On time.

A child missing one day a fortnight will miss four weeks in a year, and more than a year of school by the time they reach year 10. Twenty or more days absence in a year is categorised as chronic absence by the Department of Education. Of course, occasional absence from school will be unavoidable (for example due to illness, family bereavement or religious observance) and we understand this.

We have compared our whole-school data for Term 1, 2025 to Term 1, 2024 and are pleased to see a slight improvement in overall attendance (91.9% compared to 91.4%) but we’re sure you will agree that there is still work to be done.

Our overall school target is for 95% attendance or above.

We would like to congratulate the Prep, Year 2 and Year 3 cohorts for having the best attendance in the school!

Attendance for Term 2, 2024 was 89.67% and we look forward to a dramatic improvement on that next Term.

We hope that all of our Mitcham Primary School families enjoy a well earned break and lovely family time together wherever possible.
