Peer Mediators

This term, all of our grade 6s completed Peer Mediation training. This training gives the students a step-by-step formula in which they follow to assist their peers in resolving playground conflicts. By completing the Peer Mediator training, students improve upon their interpersonal skills and negotiation strategies. Research shows that when faced with a problem, young people are more likely to go to another student rather than an adult to discuss the issue. Therefore, our grade 6 Peer Mediators play an important and valuable role within our school community as they give up their own play time to support their peers to discuss their issues and find solutions with low stakes issues. The Peer Mediators can be found both during recess and lunch play walking around, offering an empathetic ear and wearing the Peer Mediator high vis vest.
