Principal Message

Friday  4th April

From the Principal’s Desk

As we approach the end of a fantastic Term 1, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible achievements, events, and community spirit that have made these past few weeks so special at Mitcham Primary School.

Firstly, a huge congratulations to all our students who have participated in sporting events over the last fortnight. Last week’s Grade 3-6 Athletics Carnival was a brilliant display of teamwork, perseverance, and fun! The energy and enthusiasm from all students were truly inspiring, and I want to extend a special congratulations to Banksia House for their exciting win of the carnival – well done!

Today, we had the privilege of hosting our Whole School Cross Country Carnival, and what an amazing event it was! It was wonderful to see every student give their best effort, cheer on their peers, and embrace the challenge of the course. A huge thank you to our parents and families for their support and contributions – whether marshalling, cheering from the sidelines, or helping with organisation, your involvement made the day even more special.

Beyond the sporting field, we have been so proud of the way our students have contributed to their learning. The Junior School Council representatives have played a key role in ensuring student voice is embedded in our planning. Over the past few weeks, they gathered valuable feedback from their classes about what students are particularly interested in learning in Term 2. They then shared these insights with their teachers, during planning day, making a real impact on shaping engaging and meaningful learning experiences. This process highlights how important student agency is in our school, and we are so proud of our Junior School Council for their leadership. It was also so cute seeing our little students sitting up in the big chairs in our conference room!

Another highlight of this term was our ‘Lunch with the Principals’ event, where we celebrated 30 students from across the school who were chosen by their teachers for their outstanding display of our Mitcham Values – respect, kindness, love of learning, and resilience. Sharing a delicious pizza lunch with these exceptional students was truly a highlight of my term, and I am already looking forward to hosting this event again in Term 2.

Next term, we are also introducing a special recognition event for our ‘Attendance Heroes’ – students who have either made great improvements in their attendance or have demonstrated exceptional attendance and punctuality. This celebration will include a special morning tea to acknowledge these students’ efforts. Watch this space for more details on this exciting new initiative!

We also take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of our school community. Many of our families have recently observed Eid and Persian New Year, and we hope these celebrations were filled with joy and togetherness. For those celebrating Easter, we wish you a very happy, hippity-hoppity Easter!

Finally, I want to extend my gratitude to all families, staff, and students for your support and dedication throughout Term 1. It has been a fantastic start to the school year, and I wish you all a restful and revitalising holiday break. I look forward to seeing everyone back for an exciting Term 2!

Warmly,

Erin
