Careers + Opportunities

My Career Insights

Thank you to all the Year 9 students that completed their Morrisby profiling this week! All students did a fantastic job across the 3 periods on Tuesday. If any Year 9 students missed this opportunity due to absence, a catch-up time and date can be arranged to complete the online quizzes. Students that have completed the online component will receive a full report and a 1 to 1, 30-minute interview with a Morrisby trained career practitioner. These interviews are scheduled for the week commencing June 2nd in Term 2. More information about how parents and carers can participate in these interviews will be sent in Term 2.

Year 10 Work Experience

A reminder for students and families that Year 10 work experience will take place from Monday 26th May to Friday 30th May. Students have been working hard to make contact with potential employers to secure work experience placements as part of the HC10 class.  Parents and carers can assist by checking in with their student on their progress towards securing a work experience placement. This year all work experience paperwork is digitally based through the new Education Department Work Based Learning Platform.  It’s an exciting transition to digitising all forms and making the paperwork process more streamlined for all parties.  Please keep a lookout for an email which requires a parent/carer review and digital signature to complete your student’s placement paperwork.

Placements available!

Vail resorts at Falls Creek have offered some fantastic work experience placements, please email Ms Macklan if you are interested in any of these placement options:

  • Rental and retail operations (2 placements)
  • Lift maintenance
  • Electrical
  • Carpentry (Building Maintenance)

Prepare to Work Safely

If you are planning to complete work experience in any building, construction/trade related business (e.g. electrical, plumbing), you will need to have completed this course prior to your work experience placement. Priority will be given to Year 10 students who require the course for their work experience placements, with any remaining places offered to other students. Please register your interest ASAP by email to Ms Macklan.

Students will be able to participate at no cost (normally $165 per student), thanks to the Alpine Shire, who are funding this course. The course is a full day of training at school, hosted by 1 Stop Training Centre. Students will complete the Construction Induction Training Course (CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry). The course is longer than a usual school day to ensure the training course requirements are met.

The course will commence at 8.45am and conclude at 4.00pm.

More information about the course can be found at https://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/construction-induction-training-white-card

Having access to relevant and recent information can greatly assist in career and pathways conversations.
