As we are at the end of Term 1, we’d like to congratulate all Year 7 students for successfully completing their first term of high school! It’s been an exciting journey so far, and we are incredibly proud of how well our new WPSC community members have settled in.
Since returning from camp we have had a busy few weeks, including the successful completion of NAPLAN. Our Year 7s did a great job working showcasing their great reading, writing, spelling and numeracy skills across the two weeks.
Last Thursday select students went out on their first of many interschool sport days. IT was a very successful day out with a majority of the cohort representing WPSC in either volleyball, cricket, ultimate frisbee or tennis. We even had our amazing Year 7 Boys Tennis Team win! They will be moving onto the next stage in a few weeks time and we with them the best of luck!!
We also had a fantastic Athletics Day this past Tuesday, where students competed in various events, showcasing their athleticism and team spirit. It was a great day for everyone and awesome to see the students participating in their first whole school sporting event.
Finally, we will be wrapping up the term with our Celebration Assembly, where we recognized outstanding achievements and reflected on the accomplishments of the term. It will be a wonderful way to end what had been an exciting and productive start to the year.

It has been a very BUSY Term 1 for our Year 8 Students!
Our Year 8s demonstrated tremendous amounts of community, achievement and engagement through their participation at our annual swimming and athletics carnivals. Daniel and Ben Collins represented our school at regionals for swimming, in which Ben won 1st place for 100m freestyle and 3rd place for 50m breaststroke and Daniel won 1st place for 50m butterfly and 2nd place for 200m freestyle, both boys will move on to State!
During interschool sports, we had many victories with our mixed baseball, mixed ultimate frisbee, and girls’ volleyball teams winning first place, as well as boys’ volleyball and cricket coming in second place. Well done to our hardworking teams who practiced during sport ed and lunch to collaborate and improve their skills.
To recognise the determination and participation of our students, this year we introduced Year 8 Student of the Week! Each week a year 8 student was nominated by their teachers for displaying academic success, respect to all, and enthused engagement in their classwork. In addition, this student receives a ‘gold star’ for their Home Group, and any Home Group that receives 5 Gold Stars wins a class lunch and party! A big congratulations this term to Kiora Hawthorne, Haylen Charleston, Ellora Bryant, Elizabeth Stohr, and Chevelle Knight who all won Student of the Week, bringing their class 1 gold star closer.
The celebrations continued with our Term 1 Best and CARE’st Assembly, which recognised the Year 8 students going above and beyond. We were proud to announce Banks Vistac as our best dressed, as he continuously wears both our WPSC uniform and sports uniform with pride. Dakota Lyddy won our Positive Change award for finishing the term with the most positive improvement. Summer Farrell and Elizabeth Stohr achieved the most ‘Above Standard’ results in their subjects, showcasing their extensive knowledge and dedication to their studies. And lastly, Maddie Forecast, Marc Castro and Kiora Hawthorne won our Best and CARE’st awards for their amazing efforts in Community, Achievement, Respect and Engagement.
We look forward to working with this amazing and dedicated cohort in Term 2 and seeing what they can achieve next.

A Successful Term: Highlights and Achievements
As the term comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements and memorable experiences that have shaped our school community. From academic milestones to extracurricular successes, this term has been filled with growth, learning, and collaboration.
Academic Excellence
This term our year 9 students took part in the NAPLAN assessments. They have performed really well in all of these assessments and we look forward to seeing how much they have all grown since year 7 across the assessed domains. Students have shown outstanding dedication in their studies, with many excelling in assessments and learning tasks. Congratulations to those who achieved top marks and to everyone who worked hard to reach their personal academic goals.
Extracurricular Achievements
Our sports teams have had a fantastic term, with victories in the yr 9/10 girls volleyball A and B tournament and commendable sportsmanship displayed across all events. The drama and music departments also shone brightly, many of our year 9 students have take up these opportunities this term, developing and showcasing their talents.
ICARE term one:
This term our focus was on social and personal capabilities through student self reflection and goal setting. Students reviewed their yr 8 school report, attendance data and learning task completion and then set themselves 3 SMART goals for the term based on areas of growth or improvement. This week we reviewed our progress with our goals and discussed with our ICARE teacher in a conference our successes and achievements across the term.
Looking ahead as we prepare for the next term, we encourage students to set new goals and embrace upcoming opportunities. Whether it’s participating in a new club, taking on a leadership role, or striving for academic excellence, the next term holds exciting possibilities for everyone.
We wish our students, staff, and families a restful break and look forward to another term of learning, growth and achievement!
Happy Holidays,
The Junior School Team
