Women of Western Port Event Celebrates Strength, Resilience, and Community
On March 6, Western Port Secondary College hosted its inaugural Women of Western Port event in celebration of International Women’s Day. The event brought together community leaders, students, and professionals to honor the achievements and contributions of women in the region.
An esteemed panel of speakers shared insights, including David Simmonds (Tyabb JFNC), Sharon Douglas (NBN), Claire Bauska (Regenerate), and federal MP Zoe McKenzie. Their stories inspired and motivated the audience, which included local students, community representatives, and organizations such as Rotary, Bendigo Bank, and the Mornington Peninsula Foundation.
The event opened with a moving Acknowledgement of Country by Monique Parsons and keynote speaker Claire Bauska shared her journey in community advocacy, highlighting the importance of practical support for women and children in crisis.
Entertainment was provided by Chloe Kirkpatrick and Rhiel Armstrong-Bernardini, who performed Superwoman by Alicia Keys. Western Port’s student captains also delivered inspiring speeches on allyship and gender equality.
The Women of Western Port event was not only a celebration but a call to action. It highlighted ongoing challenges in achieving gender equality while showcasing the strength and determination of women in the community. The school looks forward to making this event an enduring tradition that empowers and uplifts the women of Western Port.
