VCE Performance & Oral Exams

October is a vibrant and demanding time for our VCE Performing Arts and Languages students as they complete a wide range of external assessments.

On Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th October, our VCE Music Contemporary Performance and VCE VET Music Performance students presented 20 to 35-minute programs in the Geode Centre Theatre at Clyde North. These assessments, each worth 50% of the final study score, required students to demonstrate musicality, technical control and interpretive skill. Music Contemporary Performance students included a reimagined work, an ensemble piece and an Australian work post-1990 in their performance programs. VCE VET Music Performance students were assessed in either solo or group formats on accuracy, stagecraft and stylistic coherence. Eight assessors from the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) attended across the two exam days to assess our students.

On Tuesday 7th October, Theatre Studies students performed prescribed monologues at Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin. Worth 25% of the study score, the exam included a spoken Interpretation Statement and the portrayal of a selected character from either an Actor/Director or Designer perspective.

Dance students will have performed two contrasting solos this week on Tuesday 14th October at the Jane Moore Academy of Ballet in Highett. Each solo has a maximum duration of 5 minutes. With a combined weighting of 50%, the performance exam includes a skills-based solo and a cohesive composition, both assessed for control, expression and choreographic intention.

Our language students will undertake their oral exams this week, with Japanese Second Language on Wednesday 15th October and French on Friday 17th October, both at The Tudor in Box Hill. Each oral, worth 12.5% of the study score, includes a 15-minute personal conversation and a discussion based on a subtopic supported by a visual prompt.

Following these practical assessments, written exams will begin on Tuesday 28th October, starting with English.

We commend all students for their focus, creativity and commitment throughout this intensive period and wish them continued success as they move into the final stage of the VCE journey.
