From Our Principals
Anna-Marie Yelland and Aaron Jones
Dear families,
We are already well into the swing of term, and it will be the end of the year before we know it. While we are out of the winter months there has still been a lot of illness going around, with many student absences and sick bay visits. We ask that if students have a fever or unwell that they remain at home until they are better.
The new gate process is going well with all visitors coming through the office. We remind parents that if they wish to be onsite and volunteer within the school, they need a Working with Children Check, please find a link below for more information.
Staffing Updates
We wish to share that after many years of service at Ormond Primary School, Michael Pannam, will be leaving us at the end of the year. Mr Pannam has accepted a teaching position at a brand-new school a lot closer to home. We are very grateful for his dedication and experience and will be recognising his contributions at the end of the year.
We have run a recruitment process and look forward to introducing our new PE to the community in the coming weeks. We are currently recruiting for several other roles, and will confirm our staffing profile for 2026 shortly.
Ms Delaney has been farewelled today as she leaves on long service leave to adventure overseas. We wish her safe travels and look forward to her return for the start of the 2026 school year.
SWPBS
I am excited to share that we have been accepted into School Wide Positive Behaviour Support starting in 2026.
School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a globally recognised, evidence-based framework that helps schools create safe, positive, and inclusive environments where students and staff can thrive.
SWPBS supports the Education State priorities and the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 by helping schools build consistent, whole-school systems that promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, and inclusion - creating the right conditions for effective teaching, learning, and leadership across the school.
We have a newly formed SWPBS team that is already working with our Inclusion Outreach Coach, Christy. We look forward to sharing our journey with you and seeking consultation and feedback from our community.
Pupil Free Day
This is a reminder that Monday 3rd of November is a pupil free day. If you require care for your child/ren TheirCare are running a program. We hope everyone enjoys the extra-long weekend and will see everyone back on Wednesday 5th of November.
Storytime
We have thoroughly enjoyed our first 2 Community Storytime sessions; it has been wonderful to see new and current students enjoy the new library furniture and space. So far Mr Jones and I have read a story and soon we might even have a furry friend join in on the event. We hope to see you at one of the sessions soon and feel free to share the flyer, the more the merrier.

Nick Staikos
Nick came for another visit last week as we continue to discuss plans for upgrading our facilities. We have found an old masterplan with different phases of works following the STEAM room. As the plan is over 5 years old Nick is going to liaise with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to get a new plan drawn up.
World Teachers' Day
Next Friday 31st October is World Teachers' Day where we can celebrate the amazing teachers and education support staff at Ormond Primary School who inspire, support and empower our students daily.
We have a special day planned for our staff and would like to invite families to add to this and show their appreciation in a simple but meaningful way. We have created an online message board, linked below, and invite families to add either a shout out, memory, picture or message of thanks to the staff at OPS. We will display the message board in the staffroom throughout the day.

Smile Squad
I'm sure you've all seen the big orange Smile Squad van at OPS. The van will be leaving us sooner than originally scheduled, but to ensure they accommodate all students, they will be on site Monday-Thursday for the next 2 weeks.
Bookings are now closed, however if there is anyone that missed out on registering for an on-site visit, please feel free to contact them for a FREE check-up at their clinic at 2a Gardeners Road Bentleigh East. Call (03) 9575 5333 to schedule an appointment.
Have a wonderful weekend.
With thanks,
Anna-Marie Yelland

Is Dinner the Most Important Meal of the Day for Children’s Wellbeing?
Australian wellbeing researcher Dr Kate Freiberg reminds us that dinner can be one of those golden moments when children know they have our full attention. Whether you’re sitting together at the dining table or gathered around the kitchen bench, switching off the TV and sharing a meal provides a valuable opportunity to connect.
These simple, everyday moments help children feel seen and heard and can make a big difference to their overall wellbeing.
