In the PE Classroom
This term, students across all year levels will be developing their skills, teamwork, and understanding of fair play through a variety of fun and engaging activities. Our focus continues to be on building confidence, encouraging participation, and promoting a lifelong love of being active.
Prep
Our Prep students will be learning about and practising the fundamental skill of catching. Lessons will include a range of fun, movement-based activities designed to develop hand–eye coordination, focus, and control. Students will explore catching using different types of balls and objects, working individually, with partners, and in small groups. These foundational skills will support their success in future games and sports.
Grade 1 & 2
Students in Grades 1 and 2 will be focusing on soccer skills. The main emphasis will be on the two key kicking techniques — passing and striking — as well as controlling the ball when moving. Through mini games and team challenges, students will develop accuracy, timing, and awareness of space, while also learning about teamwork and communication on the field.
Grade 3 & 4
Our Grade 3 and 4 students will also be learning soccer skills, with a slightly greater focus on ball control while dribbling and refining their passing and striking techniques. Lessons will include a mix of skill-based drills and small-sided games that encourage students to apply their skills in realistic game settings. They’ll also explore basic gameplay strategies, decision-making, and fair play.
Grade 5 & 6
Students in Grades 5 and 6 will be introduced to the exciting and fast-paced sport of European Handball. They’ll learn and practise the core skills of passing, catching, dribbling, and shooting, before applying these in modified games. A big focus will be on developing game sense — understanding how to move into space, support teammates, and switch effectively between offence and defence. Students will also learn to referee and manage small games, helping them develop leadership and teamwork skills.
