📚 Book Week at OLSS – Reading is Magic! ✨

We’ve been celebrating the joy of reading during Book Week at Our Lady Star of the Sea, with students exploring the 2025 Children’s Book Council of Australia Shortlisted Books. Across the school, classes have been reading the shortlisted picture books- sharing stories, discovering new favourites, and diving into the magic of literature.

As part of the fun, each class will be voting for their favourite shortlisted book by the end of Week 4 (Wednesday 13th August). During their library visit, each child will receive a counter to place in the voting container of the book they loved most. We can’t wait to see which story comes out on top as Our Lady Star of the Sea's Book of the Year!

And the excitement doesn’t stop there...

We’re also looking forward to our Book Week Celebration Day on Monday 18th August! All students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. There’s no need to buy anything new, feel free to get creative with costumes you already have at home. It’s all about bringing books to life and having fun together as a reading community!

A big thank you to all teachers for fostering a love of reading and helping build Book Week excitement. Let’s keep the magic of books alive!

Public Speaking

The Our Lady Star of the Sea Public Speaking competition began last week. We would like to congratulate all students who overcame their nerves to present their speech. The quality of the speeches across the school was outstanding and we thank any parents involved in assisting their children to prepare for this competition. 

Congratulations to the following children who will progress through to Round 2 of the competition. These children will present their next speech in Week 6 and should be ready to present by Monday 25th August.
