Dear Families of Our Lady Star of the Sea,

Today, 15 August, we join the Church around the world in celebrating the Feast of the
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast reminds us of the great love God has for Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the special place she holds in our faith.
As Catholics, we believe that at the end of her life, Mary was taken into heaven body and soul. This was God’s way of honouring her for her life of faith, love, and service. Mary’s Assumption is also a sign of hope for us, a reminder that, like Mary, we are called to be close to Jesus and share in the promise of eternal life.
As we reflect on Mary’s Assumption, may we be inspired to say “yes” to God’s call in our own lives, just as Mary did.
Loving God,
Today we thank you for Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Her “yes” to You changed the world.
Help us to listen to Your voice and follow Your ways, just like Mary did.
Mary, assumed into heaven, pray for us.
Amen.
Events coming up at Our Lady Star of the Sea
Next week we are excited to celebrate Book Week 2025 with the theme “Book an Adventure!” This is always a highlight of the school year, as we come together to celebrate books, stories, and the joy of reading.

Our celebrations will begin on Monday morning with our much-loved Book Parade, where students are encouraged to come dressed as a favourite book character. We can’t wait to see the creativity and imagination on display. Throughout the week, we have a number of exciting events planned that will inspire our students, encourage their love of reading, and remind us all of the magic found in books. Unfortunately we will not be having the Scholastic Book Fair this year as they were unable to deliver it on the day they had promised.
We are also looking forward to Grandparents Day and our Newman Symposium the following Monday. These are such important opportunities to celebrate learning and community here at Our Lady Star of the Sea. We warmly invite all grandparents, parents, and carers to join us for these special occasions. They are moments where we can gather, share, and be reminded of the blessings of belonging to such a vibrant school community.
Thank you for your continued support of our school and the many events that make Our Lady Star of the Sea such a special place for our children to grow, learn, and thrive.
God Bless,
Mrs Maria Rose
