SWPBS / Wellbeing

This week was filled with opportunities for personal growth and building relationships. In the last two weeks of Grade 5, the focus will be on how to be an upstander and a positive role model.

English

Grade 5 continues to work through our knowledge-rich reading unit; Natural Disasters. They have been linking their learning to picture story books by Jackie French including The Fire Wombat; The Turtle and the Flood; and Drought Kangaroo. 

 

In writing, we will be utilising the last two weeks to revise grammar and sentence structures. At a text level, students will be practicing organising their information to create a plan, and write concise introductions and conclusions.

Mathematics

Throughout the next fortnight, students will be learning about operations. In particular:     

-Practise rounding and shifting to find estimates for a price of a basket of items.

-Identify whether to use exact or estimated answers for given scenarios. 

-Practise by reading a worded problem, underlining keywords, representing the problem with a bar model and writing the equation required to solve the problem.

-Approximate the cost of individual items required for an event.  

-Calculate a total cost estimate for a class event. 

-Create their own financial plan for a party using the skills they have learnt in this unit.

Creative Connections

The students have finished their picture story books, ready to give to their buddies next week. As we approach the end of the year, Grade 5 will be completing a range of "Creative Christmas Connections.
