Grade 4

English
Last week, the Grade 4 students rounded off the final lessons of their novel study on Walter by Emily Rodda. They have thoroughly enjoyed reading the text and diving deeply into Rodda’s descriptive language and complex characters. In addition, students have now completed the concluding paragraphs for their narrative pieces.
Over the coming weeks, students will shift their focus to a new unit on the geology of Uluru. They will begin by exploring key questions such as: Where is Uluru, and how did it get its unique shape and colour? and Why is Uluru so significant to the Traditional Owners?
Mathematics
In mathematics, the Grade 4 students have finished their unit on probability and are now continuing to develop their understanding of key multiplication and division concepts. They have explored the use of arrays to solve division problems, learned algorithms for short division, and examined how bar models can support the solving of multiplication problems.
In the final two weeks of term, students will shift their focus to a unit on Mass and Capacity, where they will learn to measure mass in grams and kilograms, and capacity in millilitres and litres.
Creative Connections
In Creative Connections, students will investigate how different types of light affect colour and will use this knowledge to create landscapes inspired by Uluru Dreaming traditions. This learning will support Grade 4 students to understand how Dreaming stories explain the connections between land, animals, people, and culture.
