Grade 3

English
Over the last few weeks, students have delved into the picture story book Finding Our Heart. They have explored the message behind the text, including the history and significance of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and have written book reports expressing their opinions about the book and its themes.
In the coming weeks, students will be reading and analysing two well-known Australian poems: The Ant Explorer by C.J. Dennis and Banjo Paterson’s Mulga Bill’s Bicycle. This learning will round out a fantastic year for the Grade 3 students.
Mathematics
This week, students finalised their learning on probability. They explored key language used to describe chance, such as certain, impossible, likely and unlikely, and conducted several chance experiments to investigate the probability of different events.
In the final weeks of the year, students will continue their learning with a focus on multiplication and division. They will use concrete materials to multiply and divide two-digit numbers and will learn to analyse worded problems to determine whether multiplication or division is required to solve them.
Creative Connections
Students are wrapping up their Creative Connections work focused on themes relating to Yirra and her Deadly Dog, Demon and Finding our Heart. Students have completed dioramas and Indigenous art pieces.
Bike Ed and Celebration Day
Last Friday, the Grade 3 students rode their bikes to the beach at Ocean Grove. It was a beautiful day for a ride and a wonderful finale to our Bike Ed program. The Grade 3 teachers and students would like to thank the many parent helpers who supported both the Bike Ed sessions at school and the celebration ride to the beach. Special thanks also go to Senior Constable Lawrence Cinel and our town’s resident Tour de France winner, Cadel Evans, who both joined the students on the ride.
