What's been happening this week?

COMPASSION CLASS
The Year 1/2 students had so much fun exploring the theme of Compassion this week. One of our favourite activities was role playing being an ‘Upstander!’ We spoke about the different ways we can be an upstander and help someone out of a difficult situation.
JAPANESE PENPAL WRITING
Earlier this year, our Year 5/6 students were excited to receive letters from pen-pals at our friendship school in Japan. The Japanese students introduced us to their favourite places in Japan (in English). In Japanese class, we have been busy writing, in Japanese, about our favourite Australian native animals. We hope you enjoy looking at some examples and we look forward to sending them off in the mail soon!
🎨 Creative Sparks in the Art Room
The art room was buzzing with creativity this week as exciting new projects began and others reached their grand finale. It’s always a joy to watch our students’ ideas come to life!
Our Prep artists brought along stories they had been writing in class and used them as the inspiration for a magical new artwork. They discovered a brand-new technique—turning tissue paper into paint! First, they drew their stories in white oil pastel, then covered them with colourful tissue paper. A light spray of water transformed the tissue into paint, revealing the “secret” drawings once dried.
In Years 1 and 2, the much-anticipated shadow puppet project began! Students put their engineering hats on, using recycled boxes to design and build the stages for their upcoming puppet shows.
Our Years 3 and 4 students worked hard to complete their island-inspired artworks. Using a silhouette design based on classroom writing pieces, they experimented with aluminium foil to create a striking and eye-catching effect—one you might like to try at home!
Finally, Years 5 and 6 filled the week with brainstorming and design work, preparing the props and costumes for their showcase performance. We can’t wait to watch these ideas transform into spectacular creations over the coming weeks.
