Specialists Updates and Celebrations

Messages from our Specialist team (P.E., Art, Music, Performing Arts and Environmental Education) and Library...

Visual Arts (Prep)

The Prep students have been busy creating their wonderful paper collage artworks! This week, they explored a new collage technique called “cluster.” This involves grouping pieces of paper or images closely together in one area so they look connected, making that part of the collage stand out. The students loved experimenting with arranging and rearranging their pieces, overlapping them to form striking clusters. It has been amazing to see their confidence grow in this style of art, and I’m so proud of what they created!

Physical Education (Years 1 and 2)

This week in Years 1 and 2, we began our unit of Gymnastics in PE. We started with some warm-up activities pretending to be different animals and moving around the gym. We had some very interesting snakes, kangaroos and crabs! After, we looked at the difference between point and patch balances and then began to create some different balances using examples from the screen. Finally, we worked together to practice balancing with a partner in different ways. Well done to all the children in this week's PE lessons!

Performing Arts (Years 3 and 4)

The Year 3 and 4 students have been learning about different dance styles from various time periods. This week they learnt about scarf dancing and the influence it has had on dance within communities. After watching a video that highlighted key movements and techniques, the students worked in small groups to choreograph their own routines. They then had the opportunity to perform their dances for the class. It has been a privilege to watch them develop new skills and grow in confidence as performers!

Environmental Education (Years 5 and 6)

This term the year 5 students are learning about plants and animals. So far they have learnt about scientific names and how to classify plants and animals. This week, they are learning about structural or physical animal adaptations, specifically for Australian animals like the wombat and emu. Enjoy reading about some of these below!

The year 6 students have been learning about our local environment, including the plants and animals that live around our school. They have also learnt about natural features such as the Yarra or Birrarung river and Port Phillip Bay, and how they are used.
