Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

This week in Maths, our Prep students have been learning all about the part-part-whole concept with a focus on the number 10. We've been busy with lots of hands-on activities to help us discover all the different ways to make 10! Using ten frames, counters, and tens frame trains, students have been actively building their understanding of number combinations. To wrap up our learning, we created colourful rain cloud crafts where each raindrop showed a pair of numbers that add up to 10. The students loved showing off their creativity while demonstrating their growing number sense!

Year 1

This week, our Year 1 students had their first excursion for the year to Scienceworks! This linked to our English and Science learning this term about Space. At the Planetarium, we saw different constellations, learned about the sun and watched Tycho goes to the moon. We were really proud of our student's behaviour and very grateful to the adults who volunteered their time to help us.

Year 2

In Week 3, our Year 2 students embarked on an excursion to TwistEd Science as part of our Science Unit: Flash! Bang! with a focus on light and sound. Students participated in a workshop where they explored the colours within white light, sound sources and the way light and sound move. They had time to be scientists and explore many different stations. These ranged from bubbles, rocket launching, pipe connections and building. Check out some of our mini scientists below.

In Week 6, they thoroughly enjoyed developing their skills in woodwork during our A Bright Idea in-visit. The goal of the experience was to build a model plane with working lights as a celebration of our Science Unit: Flash! Bang! There was a chorus of banging hammers, sanding of wood and voices of helpful students throughout each stage of the process. They were very proud of their end products with all students flying them out of the room! We wonder if there will be any keen woodworkers in the future who will create some innovative designs.

Year 3

Our excursion to Legoland Chadstone was a fantastic way to celebrate our science unit on forces. Students took part in the push car derby workshop, where they investigated pushes, pulls, gravity, and friction by designing and testing their own Lego cars. The day also included two rides, a visit to the 4D cinema, and time in the themed Lego build and play zones. It was a fun and memorable day filled with discovery, teamwork, and hands-on learning.

Year 4

This term, Year 4 enjoyed finishing our class novel Nim’s Island, which kept us hooked with its exciting adventures and inspiring themes of bravery and resilience. Along the way, we took part in a range of activities that helped us connect with the story. A highlight of the term so far was Book Week in Week 5, when we celebrated our love of reading by dressing up as our favourite book characters. The classroom was filled with colour, laughter, and creativity as everyone shared the stories behind their costumes and discovered new books to enjoy. Overall, it has been a fantastic term of reading, learning, and celebrating books together so far, and it was wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm the students brought.

Year 5

Year 5 students recently visited the Immigration Museum, where they explored powerful stories of people who have made Australia their home. They showed excellent behaviour throughout the day and represented our school with pride, curiosity, and respect. It was a meaningful experience that deepened their understanding of belonging and Australia’s rich multicultural society.

The celebrations continued throughout the week as we celebrated Book Week. Students dressed up as their favourite characters and shared stories during buddy reading sessions with Year 3 students. It was a joyful time filled with learning and connection across our school community.

Year 6

This week in English, we dove deep into the Ningaloo Reef as we started our new novel, Blueback by Tim Winton. Before reading, students built background knowledge, learning about the many plant and animal species in the Ningaloo Reef and about the life of author Tim Winton.

During this unit, students will work on persuasive writing. This week, they began writing a persuasive letter to our local council, City of Port Philip, urging them to protect our local beaches. Next week, students will work with a partner to write and record a persuasive podcast on an environmental topic of their choice. We look forward to listening!
