From the Acting Head of Senior School

Over the past fortnight, our Senior School has been alive with activity, with students embracing opportunities to lead, perform, and connect with their peers and teachers.
Prefect candidates in Melbourne
Last week, 11 of our 2026 Prefect candidates travelled to Melbourne to take part in the ESA Student Leadership Day. This program brought together young leaders from across the state, providing valuable workshops, keynote speakers, and discussions designed to strengthen leadership skills and broaden perspectives. Our students represented Girton with enthusiasm and are already bringing fresh ideas and energy back into our community.
Senior School Ensembles Evening
Music took centre stage at the recent Senior School Ensembles Evening, where our talented musicians and vocal groups showcased their skills in front of an appreciative audience of family and friends. The event highlighted the dedication of our students and staff, and it was a wonderful celebration of collaboration, commitment, and the joy of live performance.
Staff vs Year 12 Netball
Next week, our much-anticipated Staff vs Year 12 Netball game will take place. Always a highlight of Term Three, this friendly clash combines competitive spirit with plenty of humour, as staff and students battle it out on the court.
Final SACs
As we approach the final four weeks of term, many of our Year 12 students are completing their final school-assessed coursework (SAC) tasks and beginning to prepare for their upcoming exams. To assist in managing the stress they may be feeling at this time, I encourage students to pace their efforts leading up to their final SACs by using a 'to-do' list for organising their study commitments. In creating these lists, students can identify the tasks they need to complete and prioritise them accordingly, adding new items as needed. Since organisation is a highly individualised process, it's important that students select a method that aligns with their personal preferences. Developing these organisational skills will benefit them not only throughout their academic studies but also in their future endeavours.
SunSmart reminder
Finally, a reminder that from Monday 1 September, all students are required to wear hats during recess, lunch, and outdoor activities, in line with our School’s SunSmart Policy. In addition, caps and buckets hats are no longer part of the School’s Uniform and Personal Presentation Policy. In accordance with SunSmart expectations, all students are expected to wear the Hybrid or Slouch hats, which are both available from Bob Stewart. We appreciate your support in ensuring students are prepared with their hats each day as we move into the warmer months.
