Principal`s Message

As we begin this week, our thoughts are with the many communities across Victoria who have been affected by recent events. These moments remind us of the importance of connection and care. As someone who was part of the Porepunkah community for many years, these events have had an unexpected impact on me. I encourage you to check in with your children, listen, talk, and be present. These small acts of support can make a big difference.

Despite the challenges, our school continues to thrive with energy and enthusiasm. Here’s a look at what’s been happening and what’s ahead:

Celebrating 170 Years of Learning

We’re proud to unveil our new school logo, marking 170 years of learning at Fitzroy Primary School. This milestone is a testament to our rich history and enduring commitment to education. The refreshed logo reflects both tradition and progress, and we look forward to celebrating this legacy with our community later this year.

Building Updates

Exciting progress is underway with our new school facilities demolition has begun, and things are moving along quickly. I had the opportunity to do a site visit last Tuesday, and even at this early stage, it’s clear that we’re on track to receive a fantastic new building. The transformation is already visible, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the project continues.

Meeting with the French Consulate

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of meeting with Madame Paule Ignatio, French Consulate for Victoria and South Australia and some of our French families. It was a valuable opportunity to discuss the strong ties between our school and the French-speaking community, and to explore future opportunities for cultural and educational collaboration. We’re proud of the diversity within our school and grateful for the support of the broader international community.

House Athletics & Interschool Athletics

Last Friday, during our curriculum day, we had 23 students travel to Coburg to represent Fitzroy PS  and the district Interschool Athletics competition. Our students represented our school with pride and sportsmanship. Yesterday, the rest of our Years 3 to 6 participated in our first house Athletics carnival. Students showed incredible team spirit, representing their new houses with distinction and determination.  A huge thank you to Jennifer for her outstanding organisation of both events her efforts ensured everything ran smoothly and created memorable experiences for our students.

Book Week Parade

Our Book Week Parade was a celebration of creativity and storytelling. It was wonderful to see students and staff dressed as their favourite characters, bringing books to life in the most joyful way. Thank you to all families for your support; it’s always a highlight of the school year.

F–2 Pyjama Day

Our youngest learners enjoyed a cosy and fun filled Pyjama Day. It was a lovely way to build connection and comfort in the classroom. Thanks to everyone who helped make it special.

Parent–Teacher Interviews

Bookings open this Monday. These interviews are a vital opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate progress, and discuss goals. We strongly encourage all families to book a time your involvement makes a real difference.

Parent Opinion Survey

Currently, we have an 18% response rate. We’d love to see this number grow! Every family has received a unique link to complete the survey. Your feedback helps shape our school’s future, so please take a few minutes to share your thoughts.

Farewells

We say a heartfelt farewell to Stephanie, who begins her maternity leave. Stephanie has made a significant contribution to life at Fitzroy Primary, and we wish her all the best as she prepares to welcome her new addition. We look forward to meeting the newest member of her family in the coming months!

We also farewell Maelle, who will be returning to France at the conclusion of this term. With her visa coming to an end, the lure of family and friends back home has been too strong. Maelle has been a valued member of our school for the past two years, and she will be deeply missed by both students and staff. Her warmth, dedication, and creativity have left a lasting impact.

Both Stephanie and Maelle have made large contributions to life at Fitzroy Primary School, and we thank them sincerely for everything they’ve brought to our community.

Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is key to student success. Every day counts, and we appreciate your efforts in ensuring your child is at school and ready to learn. If your family is facing challenges with attendance, please reach out we’re here to support you.

Thank you for being part of our vibrant school community. Let’s continue to look out for one another and celebrate the many moments of growth and joy that make Fitzroy Primary School so special.
