Year 8 Solar Boat Challenge
Friday 5 September
Year 8 students will be building solar boats out of recycled materials. We would love donations of any ‘floaty’ items that you may have lying around before Friday 5 September. This may include; bottles (big, little, medium, milk, soft drink), milk cartons, biscuit trays, lids, and anything else that could be used for a boat! Please make sure everything is CLEANED.
You can leave in the designated tubs in the Middle School Library.
Year 7 Marine Guardians Excursion
On Thursday 18 September, students who chose Marine Guardians for their Environmental Action Quest will be transported to three locations to undertake coastal cleanup.
Students are asked to arrive promptly to school (no later than 8.30am) as they will leave by bus shortly after to be dropped to Hobart Wharf.
Students need to be prepared for cold, windy weather and dress accordingly - this is a free dress day but sensible clothing and footwear for the outdoors is required.
Students should bring a small backpack, waterproof raincoat, polar fleece, thermal top, beanie, gloves, warm socks, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, personal medication and a water bottle. Recess and lunch will need to be provided as it is a full day excursion.
ACER Wellbeing Survey
The Friends’ School is using the ACER Wellbeing survey to help us understand and support the wellbeing of our students.
The ACER Wellbeing Survey is a comprehensive assessment tool that helps schools gather information about students' social and emotional wellbeing. For students in Years 7 and 8, this is particularly important as they navigate the transition to secondary school and early adolescence. The survey is confidential and covers key aspects of your child’s wellbeing, including academic engagement, social relationships, physical health, emotional regulation and self-perception. The information gathered identifies areas where our students are thriving and where they may need additional support, often delivered through our social-emotional learning program.
Students in Years 7 and 8 will complete the ACER Wellbeing survey in Weeks 5 and 6 this Term. Students in Year 7 will complete the survey on Tuesday 26 August during their Humanities classes, while students in Year 8 will complete their surveys during Connections on Friday 22 August.
We ask that parents discuss the upcoming survey with their children and encourage them to help us create a more supportive and positive school environment by thoroughly engaging in this process. Their responses are anonymous, and rather than giving us an insight into how each child is travelling individually, they provide us with valuable trends and patterns across our year groups. If any of the topics raised in the survey questions are triggering for students, they are encouraged to reach out to their Key Teacher, our pastoral care team or their trusted adults.
Absentees
If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Middle School Office (phone: 6210 2235, or email: middleschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au). We appreciate your support in this process.
