Our SMPPS Soccer team was nothing short of brilliant at the Division Playoffs! The students took on feedback, supported one another and never gave up. While modified District rules meant we bowed out in the semi-finals, the day was filled with victories, draws, and—most impressively—no losses.
There were standout performances across the park:
Solly showed true team spirit—selflessly giving up his position so others could play, and offering constant encouragement and support from the sidelines.
A big thank you also goes to Mr Sergio for giving up his time, providing expert advice, and helping coach the team.
I would like to extend a special thank you to Matthew Owen (Rupert’s dad) and all the parents who generously volunteered their time and effort to train the team. Your support has been invaluable in helping prepare our team. Lastly, thank you to all the parents who came to watch, cheer, bring fruit for the team, and coffee for the coaches—you are all part of what makes this team so special.
Finally, perhaps the greatest highlight beyond skill and athleticism was a wonderful compliment from our bus driver, who said this was the most polite and inquisitive group he had ever had on his bus. He was genuinely impressed with their manners and the conversations they shared amongst themselves—a true credit to our school and community.
This was a day to remember—full of skill, determination, and true team spirit. I couldn’t be prouder of the way our players represented themselves, our school and the Southport District.
Last week, we held our annual SMPPS Whole School Athletics Carnival — a true all-hands-on-deck day! Every staff member, from leadership to ES staff, took on important roles, and our amazing parent community stepped up to help wherever needed. We even had a special guest appearance from VIS athlete and hockey player Charlotte, who inspired and supported our 12-year-old girls group.
The sun was shining, spirits were high, and students gave it their all — with many achieving personal bests. Our Prep students had their very first experience at hurdles, and their determination (and big smiles) were a highlight of the morning. It was heartwarming to see the way students encouraged one another throughout the day, and the energy reached new heights when parents joined in for the much-loved Teacher vs Student relay.
We must also acknowledge the countless behind-the-scenes hours Mr Beattie, Ms Rosen, and the office staff dedicated to organising this day — their hard work laid the foundation for its success.
Thanks to everyone’s efforts, the carnival ran like clockwork and was a huge success. A special shout-out to Amanda for her continued expertise and dedication in supporting our biggest event in the PE calendar.
Congratulations to GUNUWARRA House on winning the 2025 House Athletics Carnival.
