Reading Homework and AR Targets
The Year 4 teachers have been pleased to see so many students beginning the term with a strong homework routine. Students should be aiming for 30 minutes of reading, four or more days per week. This needs to be recorded in their student diary. Students need to read books in their AR range so they can complete comprehension quizzes at school. Reading regularly sets students up for success with their AR points and comprehension targets. By the end of Week 3, students need to reach 30% of their points target. Your child's teacher will reach out if we need your support with this.
Maths Homework
A reminder that students are required to completed 200-1000 of Mathletics points per week. We encourage students to complete their activities on a Monday or Tuesday so any misunderstandings can be addressed prior to the end of the week.
EcoCentre Excursion
On Tuesday 26th May, we will be travelling by tram for a full day excursion to Port Phillip EcoCentre. We are looking forward to exploring the complex marine ecosystems and learning more about animal behaviour, adaptations and survival needs of marine animals in the bay. Students will also learn about the impact of marine pollution on these ecosystems and have the opportunity to explore Indigenous plants. Please ensure you have provided consent on Compass. We are also looking for parent volunteers to join us. Please email Alysse.Pirovano@smps.vic.edu.au if you are available to join us.

STAR Reading Assessment and AR Targets
Year 5 students sat their STAR Reading Assessment in Week 1 of Term 2. Students conferenced with their teachers about setting a new reading volume points target. They are now working towards achieving their targets. Please support your child by asking them to show you how they are tracking on the Renaissance website.
Melbourne Zoo Excursion
We’re excited to let you know that Year 5 will be heading off on an excursion to the zoo as part of our science unit on animal habitats and conservation! To help make the day safe, fun, and successful for everyone, we’re looking for a few parent volunteers to join us. If you’re available to assist with supervising a small group of students, we’d love to have your support. It’s a great opportunity to be involved in your child’s learning and enjoy a memorable day out. Please contact your child’s teacher if you’re interested in volunteering.
