Neurodiversity Celebration Week
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a global movement that invites us to rethink assumptions and stereotypes about how people think, learn and experience the world. It is about recognising the value of diverse minds and creating environments where everyone feels respected, supported and celebrated.
What is ‘Neurodiversity’ and ‘Neurodivergence’?
‘Neurodiversity’ is a term that acknowledges that everyone has different ways of thinking, processing information and communicating. ‘Neurodivergence’ is a term for those people who identify as ‘neurodivergent’. It is not a diagnosis but those affected may have a diagnosis of (or self-identify with) autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette’s syndrome, dyscalculia or dysgraphia.
At TPS the Wellbeing Student Ambassadors and the Rainbow Club have created a fantastic display in the corridor as you enter the school. They were excited to discover that many people who identify as neurodivergent are also famous artists, musicians, scientists, authors and actors.
Readings bookstore has put together an excellent list of books for children and teens that foster the inclusion and celebration of neurodiverse minds. Many of these titles are available at your local library or as read aloud versions online. We encourage you to check them out and keep the conversation going at home.
