Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Update

Update on Enterprise Agreement Negotiations

On Monday evening, 16 March, the Department of Education provided the APF negotiating team with an initial enterprise agreement offer as part of the current Victorian Government Schools Agreement negotiations.

After careful consideration, the APF negotiating team has determined that the offer does not adequately address the priorities outlined in our Log of Claims and has therefore been rejected.

While the offer represents a step in the bargaining process, it does not sufficiently recognise the complexity of the principal role or the challenges that school leaders are currently facing.

The offer put forward by the Department does not acknowledge the complexity of the principal role or the challenges principals are currently navigating across our schools. Principals are leading increasingly complex organisations, while managing significant workload, workforce pressures and growing community expectations.

As members know, the APF Log of Claims focuses on several key priorities for the principal class, including:

  • Remuneration that reflects the scale and accountability of the principalship and is comparative to complexity of the work and end of line responsibility.
  •  Maintaining salary differentials between teacher class, Assistant Principals and Principals that make the role attractive for future aspirants.
  • Measures to address the growing and unsustainable workload facing school leaders
  • Improved support structures for principals and assistant principals
  • Conditions that strengthen attraction and retention of high-quality school leaders

The negotiating team will continue to engage with the Department in good faith negotiations to seek improvements that better reflect the realities of the role and the expectations of members.

We will continue to keep members informed as negotiations progress and further discussions occur.
