Student Achievement: Celebrating Excellence in Indonesian

Asha Nasrun Honoured at the Indonesian Consulate General

On Saturday, Asha Nasrun (Class of 2025, Skipper House) had the honour of being invited to the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne in recognition of her outstanding achievement in Indonesian.

This special occasion brought together high performing students from across Victoria to celebrate their dedication and passion for Indonesian language learning.

During the ceremony, Asha was formally presented with an award by the Consul General, Bapak Yohannes Jatmiko Heru Prasetyo, acknowledging her distinguished results and commitment to excellence. The presentation highlighted not only her academic success, but also the significant role that language learners play in fostering cross cultural understanding.

The event featured a range of cultural and networking activities, allowing students to share their learning experiences, connect with peers, and engage with representatives from the Indonesian community. These interactions reinforced the message that their achievements mark just the beginning of a meaningful journey.

The Consul General emphasised that students like Asha are embarking on their pathway as young ambassadors, contributing to a stronger and more vibrant relationship between Australia and Indonesia. Their language skills and cultural knowledge place them at the heart of future collaboration, diplomacy, and international engagement.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Asha on this accomplishment. Her dedication to Indonesian studies is an inspiration to our school community, and we look forward to seeing where her passion for language and culture will take her next.

Eltham High School – French Study Tour 2026 Update

It is with pleasure that I inform you that the French Study Tour is back on track. Our tour organisers GET, have managed to secure tickets for our group on a different carrier for both our outbound and return flights.

We will be able to depart Melbourne on the originally planned date of 7 April returning on the 20 April.

To achieve this, we will be changing airlines from Qatar Airlines to Cathay Pacific, travelling to Paris via Hong Kong and vice versa.

A significant amount of work has gone into securing this outcome—ongoing communication with VMIA Insurance, coordination with GET Travel, and numerous meetings to navigate each new challenge. I want to acknowledge and thank everyone involved for their persistence and commitment.

I thank our students and families for their patience as we navigated through some rough times to achieve such a positive outcome.

Nous attendons avec impatience d'arriver à Paris.

STEAM Centre Development

The STEAM Centre building is complete and has been handed over to the school. Landscaping in the heart of the school is on schedule for completion in early April, ahead of the official opening on Wednesday 29 April.

Furniture has arrived, and classes in the new labs formally began on Tuesday 17 March. Planning is also underway for relandscaping the remaining central courtyard area in time for our centenary celebrations later this year.

Australian Education Union Industrial Action

As negotiations for the new Industrial Agreement remain unresolved, AEU members have voted in strong support of the proposed industrial action. The first action will be a full day stop work on Tuesday 24 March 2026.

This will affect the educational program schools can offer on the day. Once we know how many staff will be participating in the strike, we will determine what we are able to provide. It is possible that some year levels may not be required to attend school, while others will. Regardless of who is onsite, it is highly likely that an alternative program will be in place.

At this stage, I am unable to confirm arrangements, as our EHS union branch representatives are still gathering information about staff participation. Once we have this, we will be able to make informed decisions.

I expect to communicate the arrangements for Tuesday 24 March by the end of the school day on Friday 20 March. This information will be shared via the Compass Newsfeed and emailed to all families.
