Hello from Grade 3/4

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness
Over the past few weeks, our class has been busy with a range of engaging and hands-on learning experiences.
In cooking, students have been exploring a variety of ingredients and have shown great enthusiasm in trying new foods. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they taste, discuss, and describe different flavours and textures.

In reading, we have been developing our comprehension skills by making meaningful connections. Students are learning to link texts to their own experiences (text-to-self), to other books they have read (text-to-text), and to the wider world (text-to-world). This has helped deepen their understanding and encouraged thoughtful discussions.
In our class novel we have been reading Specky Magee and made several connections in relating it to other books, own experiences and the world. Specky Magee was written when there was only 16 football teams, several football fans in the room were flabbergasted and insitsted there was 18.
Other connections have been made through playing football, the roar of the crowd at a live match, visiting a hospital and meeting a famous person.
Our writing focus has been on using figurative language, particularly similes and metaphors. Students have enjoyed experimenting with creative ways to describe ideas, and have been challenged to include metaphors in their writing to make it more engaging and expressive.
We have also begun looking more into editing our work working with punctuation, capital letters, quotation marks and exclamation marks.
Here is some of our work we have been working on.

Our maths focus has taken us through shapes that are 3D finding the faces, vertices and edges, we incorporated this into our SWPBS lesson with making our own Dodecahedron which we have discovered use pentagons that make up 12 faces, 20 vertices and 30 edges.
We also celebrated hitting our 30 last week with a challenge of making a 'sweet' community building using something sweet.

In gardening, we have been working hard to establish our garden space by clearing out old weeds and preparing the area for future planting. The students have shown great teamwork and care for their environment. We are looking forward to planning what we will plant next term and continuing to develop our garden together.
