Upcoming Holy Week Events
We have many Holy Week events occuring throughout the remainder of the term during this lenten season. We welcome you to join us at any of the following events.
- Tuesday 24th March, our Prep and Year 6 students will share their interpretation of Palm Sunday at 2:30pm in the Hall. This will run for approximately 10-15 minutes.
- Wednesday 25th March, Year 5 will guide us reverently through the Indigenous Stations of the Cross. If you wish to join us, please do so at 12:10pm.
- End of Term Mass on Wednesday 1st April at 9:30am, Year 2 will lead us in song linking to prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Following Mass, we will gather together and share lunch together as a symbolic “Last Supper” before the end of term. This will be led by our Year 4 students on the Mary Clare yard at 10:45am.
- Finally, on Thursday 2nd April, just before dismissal, our Year 1 students will send us into the holidays with a fun song celebrating Easter.
Gospel Reflection - Sunday 22nd of March
Fifth Sunday of Lent
John 11:1-45
Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead.
Jesus’ promise of eternal life is at the heart of our Catholic faith. Although Easter is still two weeks away, this Sunday’s Gospel invites us to recognise Jesus’ death and Resurrection. At times, we use images from nature to help us understand this mystery of faith. Jesus himself spoke about a seed that must die when planted in the ground so that new life can grow (John 12:24). Through this image and others, we are reminded to place our hope and trust in Jesus, who is the Resurrection and the life.
As a family, take a trip to your local garden centre or Bunnings. Take this oppotunity to make your connection to planting a seed. Choose your favourite seedling and take time together as a family to plant, nurture and care for this seed during the Lenten Season. Feel free to send through any images to Ms Zeeng at lzeeng@sfbrightoneast.catholic.edu.au to share in our next newsletter. We would love to see any photos of our St. Finbar's community.
If you have a sacred prayer space in your home, you may also like to engage in the following activity.
Write Jesus’ promise from the Gospel, “I am the resurrection and the life.” on a large sheet of paper. As you talk together about what this promise means, decorate the words with symbols that remind you of the hope of eternal life. Display this in a special place in your home and keep it there as we journey toward Easter.
Finish by praying together the Apostles’ Creed, asking God to help us remain confident in Jesus’ promise of eternal life.
May God bless,
Laura Zeeng
