PREP

We are moving towards the end of the term and we can’t believe how quickly this year is flying by.

First of all, what a wonderful Prayer Gathering last Friday. The Preps were just exceptional and we could not be more proud of every single one of them. A big thank you to all of the people who came to share this with us. It is very much appreciated and it was the highlight of our gathering.

We have had Jordyn in with us whilst she completes her placement for the last two weeks and she has one more week to go. We have loved having her in the Prep space with us and we wish her all the best for her teaching years ahead.

Today, we had our whole school game of ‘Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader’ and let’s just say we think Gemma and Meg should stay down in Prep, because those year 5’s are VERY smart. What fun we all had.

Please make sure you book a Learning Conversation with your child’s teacher for one of the allocated times in week 11.

Here is what some of our Prep friends have been enjoying this week;

‘I love playing in the playground and reading my readers!’ - Leevi Gardiner

‘My favourite thing about school is playing with my friends and learning about numbers!’ - Spencer Rancic

‘My favourite learning job is heart words and I love playing in the playground!’ - Annabelle Stewart

‘I love playing with my friends and learning about our zones of regulation!’ - Hannah Apostol

‘I love playing in the dirt pit in the junior playground and I like glueing work into my big book!’  - Primo Martija

GRADE 1/2

Thank you to our families who were able to join us for the Year 1 Prayer Gathering and the open classrooms, the children loved sharing their work and having their special people in their learning space.

We were so very excited to begin our dance rehearsals with Kristy for our School Production. We learnt our dance and have started to practise in our classrooms. We cannot wait for the School Production at the end of Term 3.

Here are some highlights from the Year 1s

Percy - My group came 3rd in St Mary's Got Talent and I didn't mind that I didn't win I just loved doing it.

Harvey - I had the writing bag last week and I wrote about my 4 new puppies. My mum brought two of our puppies to school to show the Year 1 class.

Emily- Rose - I love DDT because you get to do fun activities with Judy.

Skye - I loved being in the group dance for St Mary's Got Talent with my friends. We danced to Green Green Grass and we had fun.

GRADE 3/4

We are fast approaching the end of Term 2! WOW, has it flown!

Thank you to the families who were able to visit the classrooms on our Open Classroom Morning. The children enjoyed being able to share all their hard work.

Congratulations to Josh Brewer, Hugo Nelson, Harper Neal Rix and Albert Hanlon who represented Years 3 and 4 in the annual St Mary’s Got Talent. It was a great opportunity for students to show off their talents!

Josh - ‘It was a great experience. I was just so excited to be up on that stage.’

Harper - ‘It was really fun.’

Hugo - ‘It was a good experience to look back on.’

Albert ‘It was hard but once you got up there it was really good. It is something I will look back on when I am a grandpa’

We have begun preparing for the St Mary’s production in Term 3. Last week we met with Kristy McKenzie and learned our class dances. We are so excited! We will continue to practise them in the classroom and look forward to our next meeting with Kristy in Term 3.

As you know the end of Term is always very busy, so please make sure you are checking the newsletter and Dojo for upcoming dates. One of these dates is Learning Conversations. Learning Conversations are a great chance for your child to celebrate their work with you, so we look forward to meeting with all families.

GRADE 5/6

Written by Izzy, Ivy, Lachie and Harry from 5JL

In Literacy the year 5’s have finished reading the 21 chapters of War Horse.  This book is based on World War One and is told through the eyes of a horse named Joey. The ending of the story was very sad.

We have also completed a reflection on our kinder visits.  We had a really nice time and met some new faces.

In Numeracy we have been learning how to do Multiplication using Lattice, Area and Formal algorithms. Everyday we do Mental Maths and speed skills as well.

Our Inquiry topic is on Australian Federation and we are currently completing a research project for that.

A huge congratulations to the winners of St Mary’s Got Talent. Ivy, Imogen, Charlotte and Tessa did a fantastic performance. The boy’s netball team competed last week and they ended up in 2nd place after losing in the Grand final. The girls footy were undefeated and won the grand final and are now going on to Ballarat.

Today we welcomed parents in for our ‘Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?’ It was a fantastic event and we all had great fun and learnt lots of facts.
